Really good - and rich! Aroma is chocolate with a hint of cherry/light vanilla and toffee. Pours deep, rich brown to almost black with a thick tan head that hangs around forever. Malt and chocolate combine in the flavor department - not too overwhelming, but just right. I threw in a scoop of vanilla ice cream and made a float; really nice.

Strong aroma is seriously decadent, mainly sweet chocolate with hints of - is that cherry? - as well as caramel and roast coffee. It pours a rich sable just a snip above black with a very thick and quite persistent tan head. Malty flavor has a strong overtone of chocolate, decadent and not too sweet, hints of coffee and caramel, just a whisper of fruit. Texture, though, is a bit weak - body and fizz are both lacking. However, that is the only weak spot in an otherwise scrumptious brewski. Finish is chocolaty and just a little smoky. Overall, quite satisfying.

Wow, this nose is Sweet Vermouth when first poured, then chocolate notes invade (think Kahula), its a very prominent nose (like mine but thats another story.) Pours a minimal medium beige colored head over a very opaque and very dark brown body that looks oily during the pour. Some lace. Mouth is medium and slick with tingly carbonation, a carbonation much more apparent in the mouth than in the glass. Flavor of coffee and, oddly, olives? with doses of chocolate. Hits fairly sweet, finishes with a bit of hoppy bitterness and leaves a sweet aftertaste. Not really my cup of tea.

loads of creamy cocoa and chocolate, which is always nice, back and forth between real and artificial, but it's done pretty well. kind of a small stout...this much chocolate would work very vrey well in an imperial, but still works well here. this beer disappeared faster than any in recent memory, so that says something right there. Thanks Lou...a chocolate treat. Quite nice for a mix-pack offering!

Pretty nice choc stout from Mr. Louis. Pours a moderately thick, dark brown colour into the glass. Taste is relatively mellow. Chocolatey, a little spice and sweet nutmeg-cocoa notes. Not overly rich, plenty of flavor and delightful.

This beer is almost an 8 all-around....but the flavor just loses some balance towards the finish. Has potential otherwise. Aroma is nice....sweet and chocolatey. Appearance dark black, but not super-jet...on the thinner side with a dark mocha head. Not much lacing. Flavor starts off with a solid creamy chocolate milkshake-like flavor, but as stated before, a little hops at the end to balance it out would make this beer. Not bad for Harpoon, but was expecting a little better. Going other directions in this style...worth the try though.

This on delivers where it promises, lots of chocolate in the flavor and aroma departments, with supporting notes of coffee, and cocoa powder mix. I am not a big fan of Harpoon in general but this was a decent brew.

Very dark brown/black color with a tan head that had only average size and retention. It did leave surprisingly good lacing though. A few ruby highlights abound when held toward the light. The head settled to an ok film on top. Some roasted chocolate and some roasted, slightly smokey coffee notes. The coffee aroma is more tame to let the chocolate be the fore runner. The chocolate smells sweet with some cocoa powder added for good measure. The taste was of a dry chocolate that was somewhat chalky with some decent bitterness. The coffee flavoring seemed to stand out more in the taste than in the aroma. No real discernable flavors of dark fruit. Just a nice roasted, decently well balanced flavor. Medium mouthfeel. Not as smooth and creamy as some other Stouts that I've had, but it's alright. Covers the palate adequately. It's mostly dry to boot, which is a good thing in my opinion. This is a pretty good, fairly solid Chocolate Stout. Worth a try if it's available in your area. Not the best I've had, but far from the worst beer either. I was more than happy to try this. As I've stated before, I love Stouts and Porters and this one would pair well with those "chilly" evenings. It's not overly heavy or filling.

Never really went looking for sweet stouts, sam adams cream stout ruined it for me years ago .. Pours a dark brown black, nice looking head, light lacing spots .. you look like that tojo i killed, or did i? .. odd airport bathroom aroma with light cocoa .. . light smooth slick mouthfeel, light velvety chocolate powder and cocoa in the taste .. . a very drinkable stout! .. . Cotton loved fighting - you probably made death fun for him!

Feb. 2010 - Um, not good. This isn’t worth my effort to review. It tasted like chocolate flavored cough medicine. Really sweet, really artificial and medicine-like, really bad and gooey. Not good.
