Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of our Carolus beers. “Hopsinjoor” derived from “Opsinjoor”, the typical character of Mechelen and also because of the use of 5 different kinds of hops. These hops are fractioned at a different time during the cooking process in order to conserve a maximum of aroma. Concerning the taste, the Ale has a gentle taste with a slightly bitter after taste. Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor was launched in 2008 on the Zythos Beer Festival and hit the mark: the visitors elected it as best beer, bringing Het Anker “The Consumer’s trophy Zythos Beer Festival 2008”. Type of beer: Blonde Colour: Blonde Alcohol: 8% VOL Hops: 5 kinds of hops Wort extract: 18,5° Plato Fermentation: High fermentation Refermentation in the bottle Lagering: 2 weeks Packaging: 33 cl, 75 cl and 20 L (KeyKeg : 20L, 30L) Tenability: 2 years

Pours out a very cloudy gold color whit a massive foamy white head. The aroma is of almost lea on. The mouthfeel is okay just average. The taste is not impressive just a little to bitter.

Hazy golden yellow with decent lasting white foam head, lacing to glass and sticking to lip - that’s how I like it. Aroma is hoppy, taste is bitter hops with some tone of citrus fruits. Nice bitter aftertaste. (The Hague 201209)

A murky golden colored beer with a really big frothy white head rising robustly above. Hangs around a good amount of time. Settles eventually into puffs of lacing and thick ringlet. The label on this one is misleading. I don't get much hops. I get yasty-apple tartness-sourness in both nose and on palate. That is not to say this light, crisp, effervescent beer isn't good. I am enjoying it.

not sure of the date on this, but the hops seem pretty mellow. not a "belgian ipa" at all, but a fruity, slightly apple-tart sour belgian. more tripel like than hoppy, but the bitter hops are there a little in the finish and aftertaste. not bad, not quite worth the price tag at 4.75 for an 11 oz, though. i would love to have this fresh on tap - it's got potential.

This is the true Belgian IPA. A hazy golden pour reminiscent of a tripel. Quite a bit of hops in the aroma, along with some yeast and malt. The yeast and hops battle on the tongue for supremacy with the malt being nothing more than a spectator.

Import at the LCBO (always nice to see a Carolus brew in there). Pours a cloudy golden colour with a huge foamy head that delivers good thick lacing. At first pour, I could smell lots of Belgian yeast, mostly smelling like a witbier. After breathing, the spices come out (with mild bananas and wheat) and the alcohol is felt. At least it is well-hidden in the mouthfeel, with a little sitckiness and very light bitterness. The taste has a bunch of spices with notes of green apples in the finish. An overall pretty good Belgian strong ale, but nothing out of this world.

    330ml bottle
8.0% ABV (as written on the bottle)
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
    March 14, 2011
The beer poured a hazy golden yallow colour with a huge genrous rocky head into a Leffe Chalice. The aroma was yeast, grainy malt, and some floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with medium-high carbonation. The flavour was bitter hops, yeast, and funk.

33cl bottle: pours a clouded light gold ale in the tumbler. Nice 2 finger meringue cap lasts well. Champagne-like carbonation. Aroma is spicy-herbal with a very light honey-like sweet tone. Peppery mouth feel from the high carbonation. dry-spritzy character with a biting bitter finish. Flavour is much like a super dry witbier - dry wheat biscuity body mingles with spicy bittering in the front ... big carbonation wallop cleans the palate so the dry bitter snap in the finish can have full effect. A very decent strong witbier that hides its strength in the dry effervescent body.

Pretty easy to drink brew for a beer brewed with four kinds of hop. I was expecting a bitter experience, it turned out to be a slightly more pleasant one. Once I started pouring this out of the bottle, it directly forms a firm, thick, huge head that last long enough. Aroma has bread, yeast and fruity hops. Colour is golden yellow, murky, means it being unfiltered. The bread comes back in the flavour, along with some alcohol (not much) and some malts. And there is a nice bitter in the aftertaste that gives you a small kick. Nice, interesting beer.
