Like the rich, dark brews of southern England this traditional ale draws on specialty malts such as chocolate, caramel and black patent. “Nut Brown Ale” is a deliciously flavourful dark beer like those popular in early Nova Scotia.

Bottle. Colour - deep mahogany, clear, light brown cap, nice lacing. Aroma - roasted malt, nuts, weak notes of chocolate and herbal hops. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - sweet chocolate, bitter roasted malt, and nutty tones. Great beer.

Enjoyed at the brewery on my trip there in late 2015. Pours a clean copper-amber colour with a beige, average head with a little lacing. Roasted malt nose with some fruitiness and sweetness. Fruity malt taste with a roasted finish. Refreshing mouthfeel with a little tartiness. Nothing too crazy nutwise, but some good roasted malts and fruitiness.

Had a sample at the brewery. Pours a thick enough foamy beige head and has a dark amber/brownish appearance. Lacing is ok, slightly sticky. Aromas of nutty malts, sweet and earthy hops. Flavours of earthy and resin hops. Much more malty in the finish with strong notes of nutty malts. Some hints of nutmeg as well and some brown sugar but quite faint. Fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Medium retention. Pretty good.

Garrison makes some great beer and this is no exception. A clear brown colour with a nice brown head. Aroma is nutty malt, some caramel with some citrusy hops thrown in. Flavour is slightly sweet, balanced with a bitter finish. Great beer!

Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a off-white foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of medium sweet caramel malt with light nutty finish. Taste is also a nice enough mix between some well balanced sweet caramel malt with light nuttiness and no discernable hops presence. Body is a bit light with good carbonation. Not bad but not s style that I have any passion for.

Poured a rich chestnut brown into the glass. Smallish tan head, weak retention some lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet caramel malts and some coffee tones (strange for a traditional brown ale) Light bodied, reduced malt spine, fluid bready character, soapy mouthfeel. Up front a mild dose of caramel malts some toastiness, light nutty notes, fast bready finish with a light twabg from some late-to-arrive fuggles hops. A so-so craft Brown, nothing spectacular but a solid entry in the Canadian brown ale category.

I found the flavor very appealing, more browny than nutty, but still bitter and sweet all at once. I was a little put-off by greasy brown tinge to the head, and very American feel it had in my mouth. Almost seems mass produced but is a micro brew. Still a solid 8 and better than any truly mass produced beer. Not a session beer, but a nice sampler.

A good little microbrew from Halifax thats avliable in the little university town of Sackville. Not a wonderful smell, but a decent apperance and decent mouthfeel with a bit of carbination. The taste is very good, much stronger then most of the beers i've sambled out here. Very deep and dark to begin with then fizzles down with very little aftertaste. I will rate again once i have more experience with brown ales but much better then most of the swill out here.
