Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts. Previous versions may say "Road Dog Scottish Porter"

Pours a clear brown with a 3 finger head. Tons of carbonation in the glass. Aroma is bready and malty. Taste is very dry to the tongue. Heavily metallic at first but calms down. After that there is no taste what-so-ever. Not much to say. I hope this is just an old bottle. Edit: Yes it was an old bottle, looks like cottage cheese at the bottom of the glass. Will review at a different time.

A beer of the month club entry for feb/march 2011. Tastes good, but the flavor is kind of a flash in the pan thing. Starts out tasting good, but just about the time you think you can enjoy the flavor it's gone! I guess this make this brew in the watery category. The quote on the bottle is "good beer no shit" well its time to take that slogan back to their advertising executives for a make over.

Not a bad porter... pours deep, rich brown with a moderate head... hints of mahagony in the light. Roasted malt and chocolate in good proportion, slightly thin in the mouth. Flavors match the aromas... smooth, slightly sweet finish.

Nice deep brown with a barely off white head that was honest and had presentable lacing. The head was not as thick as I was hoping, but it was Ok. The color, likewise was not as dark as most Porters I have had. More reddish/orange hues showing through also. The smell presented more of a mild roasted coffee and breasiness than a Robust Porter. Not faulty, but I just prefer a more pronounced roasted and toasty aroma. Small hints of chocolate complete the aroma. Bits of roasted coffee bean come forth in the flavor. Chocolate is not up front, but does make more of an appearance as the beer warms. A touch of the breadiness also makes an appearance. Good taste. I like it pretty well. Medium mouthfeel. Decently dry. Nicely smooth. Needed a bit more as far as coating I thought. Slightly carbonated. A legitimate Porter. Not the best, but worth a try. Easily drinkable. Goes down with no problem. I could make a session out of this easily. Again, I prefer more of a Robust Porter with more pronounced characteristics, but this was good none the less.

Pours a dark brown with a low tan head. Mouthfeel watery and hot tin. Aroma faint but smokey. Flavor is watered down malt and chocolate. All around "OK", was hoping for more...flavor.

I have had and enjoyed this many times, and finally I get to review it! This porter pours a clear, dark coppery mahogany, more like a brown ale than a porter, with a thick and fluffy off-white head. Aroma is smoky and yeasty with a hint of caramel. Flavor is malty and yeasty with a smoky undertone and touches of caramel and spice. Is this a porter? It is a good beer, nonetheless - no [bleep] as the bottle says. Texture is smooth and pleasing, fairly fizzy, leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste.

After being sort of down on Flying Dog, I was expecting to not care for this much. Somebody had a variety pack at a camping trip and offered me a beer. This was the only one that interested me so I couldn't refuse. I know I bought the variety pack about 5-6 years ago, but couldn't remember what was in it so never got around to reviewing them, thus even more reason to try their porter again. The appearance was actually pretty decent....a dark brown near black. Not much aroma, which I find typical of most porters. I was hoping it would have a bit more flavor, but wasn't really expecting it to. Tastes of chocolate malts, slight coffee, enough hops to balance it out ok but a little light for a porter. I found this to be on the watery side, sort of like Yuengling's Porter, but for near-swill microbrew, an overall above average beer. I would recommend this as a "budget beer", but for what Flying Dog is charging can probably do better.

Poured a deep ruby-brown with little head, minimal lacing. Nose, what there was of it, was of toasty malt and little else. The weak flavor was of roasted malt, a little chocolate sweetness in the background. Hops shyly emerged from hiding toward the bottom of the glass. Mouthfeel was rather thin, but smooth. Drinking a second bottle, the taste began to grow on me a bit, but not so much that I'd seek it out again.

Pours out in a clear reddish brown colour with a fluffy off-white foam. Clean yet malty aroma of old coffee, caramel, mild licorice with weak citriusy undertones. Medium-bodied with notes o froasted malts, caramel and nuts. Clean and sterile mouthfeel. Clean and rather short finish of crystal malts, roasted malts and caramel. Lacking soul.

Poured a very dark brown, not much of a head. There were coffee and chocolate notes in the flavor...I very much ejoyed it. This is a pretty good beer.
