Rich, smoky aroma has an overtone of semi-sweet chocolate and subtle roast malt and licorice notes. It pours a deep, warm sable with a thick, fluffy and rather persistent tan head. Flavor, though, lacks the depth that the aroma promised - still smoky like a good porter with roast malt and coffee notes and hints of licorice and chocolate, just not as strong as the bouquet. Texture has OK body but plenty of fizz. Overall, a good porter, if not an outstanding one. Definitely worth a try, especially if you like dark beers.

Pours a coffee brown/black that is somewhat transparent. One finger head that disappears near instantly. Aroma is very chocolaty with some coffee also. Texture is fairly thick, like chocolate milk. Taste is very pleasant and full bodied with strong hints of chocolate malts and dark coffee. Someone fizzy to the tongue. Slightly dry aftertaste. Solid porter.

This is one of those that must be enjoyed. Like previous reviewers have stated, carbonation is a big issue with this beer. One pour creates a massive head, that seemed to spill out of my glass. Maybe next time, I'll get a bottle that won't be overly charged

Poured a dark brown massive head. Aroma was of chocolate and coffee nothing amazing. Flavor however was a little off coffee and cocoa, but that sourness shouldn't have been there like it was. Overall not great not bad though.

Bottle from statelineliquors.com, pour was deep brown, huge honkin' tan, light choco head, probably the largest I've ever poured from a porter, very difficult to get this into glasses. The aroma was coffee, chocolate, light licorice notes, and something funky, off, aromatic. The flavor was better than the aroma, dry cocoa, coffee, dry lager-like black patent licorice notes, and something a little sour in the finish, touch of astringency. Mouthfeel was smooth, light, slightly acidic. This thing started out a concerning potential drain pour, and really grew on me before finishing.

12.08.04 750 ml bottle. For the record, I had no trouble with gushing beer or any off flavors or aromas. Nearly black pour with medium sized light brown head fading to a trace. Aromas are easy going and porter-y hints of coffee, burnt toast, more coffee, some licorice. Flavor is a big hit of coffee, touches of chocolate, toasty nuttiness, light molasses. The flavors finish long and a lactic note comes in at the end. All things considered, this is one hell of a porter. It appears that a goodly amount of funked up bottles are floating around, but this one was (luckily) top notch.

Cisco seems to have an overcarbonation problem. While this bottle wasn't a foamer, it seemed to explode once it hit the glass. It took me 20 minutes of pour a little, wait a little to get the head to subside enough to get the glass filled. Looking at the other reviews, this seems a common problem for them. Once the head was under control, this was a nice looking porter. The head had a meringue-like consistency and the body was a dark brown. The aroma has a bit of a harshness to it. It could be fusel alcohol, but it vaguely reminds me of creosote. Fairly hoppy. Beneath that is chocolate and scorched coffee. The flavor is much less harsh and actually quite drinkable, relying more on the chocolate flavors. There's a slight tartness up front. The mouthfeel is like a heavy soda with the high carbonation.

This beer was sampled at the 12 Hour Belgian Beer Festival 2004 thanks to Jcalabre! Very dark brown color. Small head. Aroma is roasty chocolate and coffee. Hops are spicy and strong for a porter. There is a touch of lactic sourness as well. Nice balance. Very smooth taste. Clean dry finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

reddish brown, nice toasty smell and flavor, but it had a slightly sour finish to it.

GABF 2003. Nice dark, almost black color with gigantic tan head. Chocolate and fruit aroma. Coffee, chocolate taste.
