A Golden Helles from the original Lager House built by Christian Moerlein in Cincinnati's Brewery District over 150 years ago. Today, Moerlein Lager is brewed to the same standards that declared it the first American Brew to pass the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law. This Munchner-styled Helles is a balanced lager featuring a lightly toasted, yet defined malt character and a touch of hops for a clean finish. Moerlein Helles features a deep-golden color, 2-row and Munich malt and Hersbrucker hops.

Pours hazy golden with a thin eggshell head. Malty aroma is not strong and has a hint of fruit. Flavor is stronger, crisp and malty with snippets of hops and fruit. Mouthful has firm fizz if only average body. A good party beer.

Pours a clear golden color with a solid small ivory head that dissipates into a light later of foam, leaving no lacing. The aroma is sweet grainy malt, corn, and slightly herbal hop. The taste is fairly sweet malt, bready, with a bit of a metallic finish and a slightly spicy hop adds character into the somewhat dry finish. The mouthfeel is moderate, with a fairly high level of carbonation.

Very clear straw/golden color. Super white head without much size, retention or lacing. Looks like a "macro" lager or pilsner. A few bubbles streaming up from the bottom. A grainy aroma. Some corn and wheat notes. It smells clean. Maybe some toasted notes, but they are really faint. The taste provided the grain with some buttery flavors. Got the corn again, but I also detected some sweetness. Clean throughout. A suppportive bitterness adds a bit of complexity. Light to medium mouthfeel. Refreshing and mostly dry. Crisp and easy going. Left touches on the palate. This, to me, is a step above the "macros." It still has some of those characteristics however, like the pronounced corn/grain aromas and flavors. This would be nice in the Summer, but I would probably look elsewhere after a couple.

Poured a clear amber into a pint glass, with a moderate white head and tiny carbonation bubbles clustered on the sides. Nose was faintly sweet at first, then settled into a bisquity maltiness with a slightly spicy/citrus hop overtone. Tastes like it smells, There's an initial tang, then the malt smoothly takes over. Very light, very drinkable. Mouth feel is thin, but still more body than most pale lagers. My only negative is an aftertaste, not unpleasant, but persistent. I expect a lager to finish a bit more cleanly. Overall, fairly good for an american Helles. I'd call it a good lawnmower beer, ice-cold on a hot day.

Thanks to bluesandbarbq for this Cincinnati version of a Munich Helles. Poured a clean amber color with a thin white head. Good aroma of sweet Pils malt with a slight sourness and light hops. Clean mouthfeel, more crisp than smooth, and a tad thin. Tasty sweet grain and malt flavors with faint caramel; finishes light but clean and flavorful.

Pours a nice clear light clear amber with a thin head and little lacing. Some carbonation. Aromas of sweet malts, a slight sourness and a decent hops presence. Taste is of biscuity malts, a very slight sourness, and a thin hops finish.
