Following the millenary tradition of the abbeys of Belgium and the Netherlands, Especialidades Cerveceras is proud to present Milenia, a unique hand crafted bottle conditioned ale. Only 4,000 to 5,000 bottles of this monastic brew are obtained from each brew. Its body goes from medium to robust with a high alcohol level (8.0% vol). Its unique taste derives from the well balanced blend of roasted and caramel malts as well and English and Czech noble hops. The specially selected yeast accounts for its complex bouquet and fruity flavor. Fresh wort and yeast are added prior to bottling to promote a secondary fermentation that will take place within the bottle. The bottles go through cellarage at the brewery under controlled environment. This delicate process is known as “bottle conditioning” and provides the superb refinement of flavors and aromas found in every Milenia.

Not really a Strong Belgian Ale, it was not that strong to have a start. It has a nice foam and the colour is orange with some sediments that make it look even better. The alcoholic taste is there but not that strong.

Bottle at brewtopia. Hazy honey colored. Briney, apple aroma. Apple, pear, candy flavor. Still briney (thrice tasted) and black peppery. Big, chewy, and good. A nice surprise to start the day. Like all the Casta beers, the bottle and artwork was very attractive.

Now this is an interesting beer -- and I don't say that just because it's a big, well-made Belgian-esqe Ale from Mexico either.
After sampling most of the Casta line of beers, I was convinced that this brewery was little more than a flash in the pan, so to speak. Average ales, riding on the coat-tails of the novelty of the idea of real beers (ales, no less!) coming from the land of Corona, Sol, and Pacifico. In other words, if their beers were from the U.S. or Europe, they would be considered to be in the C+/B- realm at best.
That's why I was confused to hear such great things about this particular beer. Even my bud Loren was talking up this beer, wonders of wonders. So when I saw this at the local Beverages & More -- in a special bottle-in-a-box packaging, no less -- I made sure to grab it.
Definately something that grew on me as it warmed up -- and I, in turn warmed up to it.
Unexciting to look at: moderately-sized head that quickly subsided to nothingness; apple-ciderish brown/orange body, average carbonation.
More apple in the aroma, with interesting hints of apricot and sage in the background. Perhaps not as dull as it looks, eh?
Enjoyable flavor profile, that perhaps doesn't go too far afield, but makes sure that you know that this isn't your run-of-the-mill Pale or Amber Ale, either. Mildly sweet in front, nicely drying in the middle and backend.
A beer that impressed me more and more as the evening wore on. I was drinking this while racking my Westy 8 clone brew from Primary to Secondary, and it provided a welcome bit of company during the entire cleaning and sanitizing process.
Perhaps I was a little premature in dismissing Casta as merely pumping out ales from a non-Ale marketplace. With interesting beers such as this, they have much more to offer than what initially meets the eye. Recommended.

Medium orange color. Small sized white colored head. Aroma is bready, fruity and sweet, although it does seem a little subdued. A medium bodied Belgian Ale. Malts are nutty, sweet and fruity. Touches of oranges and spice. Kind of mild tasting, the flavors seem a little subdued. What flavors are there are nice. Brown sugar and molasses. Smooth taste. Nice beer, but I guess I was hoping for a little more flavor. Mouthfeel was full and round. Finish was clean and smooth. Aftertaste was slightly sweet.

This wasa cloudy golden pour with some tangy wheaty characteristics. It was kind of refreshing.

OK, so a Belgiun Strong Ale brewed in Mexico, what’s next? Taco’s from Belgium? Any-whoo, I thought the alcohol taste was overpowering the sweet maltiness. I thought the abv was around 11%. Cloudy amber color. Medium bodied but I couldn’t get past the strong taste.

Pours a dark chestnut brown with scattered head and almost no lacing. Smells mainly of green apple and light malts. This one has a lighter flavor than most of the strong Belgian Ales I have sampled. Very nicely balanced tastes of fruit, spice, and malt. So tightly corked that it took 2 of us to pop it, worth the effort, best Mexican beer ever.

Sampled from magnum bottle. Pours a clear copper-brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is tart, vinous and spicy. Flavor is semi-sweet with prunes, fresh green apples, and molasses. Medium-bodied, warming (but not alcoholic) and smooth. Suprisingly clean finish for the style. Probably Mexico's most sophisticated ale.

This elixir pours with a cloudy golden orange body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing left on the glass. the aroma is slighlty sweet and slightly fruity with spicey notes, a slight yeastiness and a slight note of alcohol. The flavor is sweet and fruity(raspberries) with a slight yeastiness and notes of spice. Medium to full bodied, tingly on the tongue and warming.
