The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Pours a cloudy amber orange color, ton's of off white head. The aroma is of citrus, with a hoppy floral scent. There's a lot sweetness in this beer. The taste is of pine and caramel with tons of carbonation make this beer feel great as you drink it.

Aroma is pretty tame for an Ipa. Looks dark gold like a dipa but has little head retention. Flavor is much better than the smell, predominantly pine and resin but some citrus notes as well. Overall its easy to drink and packs a nice hop punch, I enjoyed this one, thanks Cory.

Groovy, man. This dude pours a wicked amber with a pillowy cream head that maintains its cool self like a long slow stoner bender leaving some wicked lacing. Man, it smells like a dank pot of grapefruit hemp then some cool dude added some pine and a little peach then a little bit of sweetness. Wow man, the flavor is most outstanding, right on, with a bit of that grapefruity hempness bittering this spliff to a wicked stage of grooviness. Most righteous and heavy, man, heavy, but in the cool far out kinda way.

Shared with aspidites, BeerDaveC007 and my brother who doesn't rate for some damned reason. Anyways, this beer was a big disappointment. No where near what I expect an IPA to be, it was at best an APA and a pretty below average one at that. The nose started out incredibly soapy. Some floral notes mingled with the soapy aroma and the sweet malts showed up too. Appearance was a brownish/red hue and a nice two-finger thick head. Flavors were more soap, with some really subtle hop notes of citrus. No malt bill at all. A really dumbed down IPA and pretty disappointing.

Well I'll have to admit I was pretty let down by this one, the 3.79 for a 22oz. was kind of a rip-off. Ok enough complaining and onto the beer, The Hippie IPA poured a strange medium brown color topped off by a decent sized beige colored head that left some lace; not really a bad appearance, but it looked nothing at all like an IPA. The aroma was very mild hops and some faint malty scents. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth, nothing spectacular, nothing disapointing. The flavor was slightly bitter citrusy hops with grapefruit standing out the most, it was balanced out pretty well by a sweet malty flavor in the fairly dry finish.

First tried this at the Buckeye Brewery in Cleveland when we were brewing our own. Loved it. Kind of spicy and floral. Very aromatic. Solid amber color. If you like spicy hoppy brew this is one to try.

Pretty tame IPA, but well rounded and easily enjoyed. This brew by the mysterious Buckeye Brewing Co. showed up at the store recently so I had to grab one. Aroma is hoppy, mostly pine with some citrus very mellow for this style needs to be more assertive. Great pour darker than most others theres a caramel almost light brown tint to the dark copper color. Fluffy off white head and great lacing that trickles back down. Mouthfeel is creamier and smoother than many IPA's, there's a nice satisfying fullness to this one. Flavor is real tasty but I was expecting more bittering hops especially since it touts itself as being 80 IBU's. Again mostly pine with some citrus but lacking the grapefruit taste that I love in a good IPA. Nice one by the good folks up north.

I think that Buckeye Beer, Hippie IPA is a truely wonderly malt & hop beverage, and what makes it even more exciting is that it is made in Ohio USA, under an historic Toledo, Ohio label, Buckeye. Thank you very much re-incarnation of Buckeye Beer!!! :) The Druid of the Great Black Swamp of Northwest Ohio. Cheers! & Slainte!

I was really dissapointed with this brew. The Hippie IPA pours a dark brown color with orange hints. The head is a nice size and leaves very good lacing. The aroma is of bitter hops, but not much in the citrus or pine department. The taste is malty with bitter hops following through and hitting hard in the the finish. The bitterness lingers in the mouth as well. The mouthfeel is too thin--definitely watery. Doesn't hold a candle to the better IPA's out there from Stone, Great Divide, and so on.

The ruby-brown body seemed to catch the light and shimmers with effervesence. The head is on the small side, but dense and creamy and never completely fades, leaving a thick, even sheet of foam across the top until the very end. This is a very malty IPA, slightly sweet with caramel and toast dominating the flavor. The hops are evident in the aroma and their bittering of the finish, but this is a pretty balanced IPA.
