Brooklyn Ale (Pennant Ale)

Pop the lid for an aroma reminesent of uncleaned showers that may have mold growing in there. Don’t ask me how I know. Pour is a little darker and more brown than the ubiquitous pale yellow american beer. However, this color is more like Yuengling lager than a dark beer. About as good as flavor goes when compared to other EPA that I have tasted. I must say tho this is better than Saranac Pale Ale. Not bad for a backup but too muchfor a session. Finish is not oppresive and I don’t think I can detect much bitterness on the finsh. The finish does have a sort of hoppy bite forming some kind of odd fruit impact on the back of the throat that hangs for a while.

This mixture of Old World meets New World pale ale pours a nice copper color with a thin white bubbly head. There is a lot of citrus in the aroma, along with bready malts and yeast. Mouthfeel is average. Taste is well balanced between the sweet bready malt notes and the bitter citrusy hop notes. Will certainly try again.

Not bad. Love the label but the beer ain't anything to get excited about.. Golden yellow, earthy spicy hops and light biscuit and caramel. Not too exciting but well made. Probably a one timer for me.

Alias "Brooklyn Pennant Ale ’55." Has the typical golden yellow ale color, not much of a head. Aroma is pleasant and inviting with a strong fruity hint. Flavor is malty with a touch of fruit and just a whisper of hop bitterness. This ale is very smooth but just a little bit on the watery side.

They are calling this an English Pale Ale, though I had a tough time distinguishing between English and American Pale Ale. Maybe somewhere in between? Some of the other English Pale Ales seemed a little more yeasty, or different kind of hops. This was leaning more towards the sweet side, some citrus to it...why I was thinking APA when I sampled. Only grabbed a single to try. Not sure was good enough to buy a 6-pack, but will probably sample again somewhere down the road.

Mostly clear amber/copper color with burnt orange highlights around the bottom. A slightly off white colored head that was not very prominent nor did it have much lacing or retention. Bread and biscuit notes. Some sweet smelling caramel malts. Some eathy, yeasty aromas. A bit of a pine hint. Dry, biscuit type flavor. Caramel. Slight bit of a toasty flavor along with a small hop bite. Medium/thin mouthfeel. Smooth and mostly dry. Could have coated the palate better I thought, but not bad. Seems to be nicely refreshing also. This beer is alright. Nothing fancy, nothing special and nothing really bad either. Could be an excellent Spring or Summer brew. Went down pretty easy.

Pours an almost clear light amber with a decent head and some lacing. Sweet malty aroma with some toffee and caramel and a bit of biscuit. Taste is slightly sweet with the toffee sweet malts shining throughout - easy on the palette. A nice session ale for sure.

A nutty, malty aroma, a golden brown body, not much carbonation, the head was light brown and disappeared quickly. Flavor of sweet nutty malts, with hints of toffee, and some hops as well. Overall it was worth trying, but at $13.00 a sixer it too expensive for what it is.

Generally it seems to me that Pale Ales are underrated here, perhaps the style is just not very popular; milder than APA's or IPA's. the nose on this is a mix of big malts and cirtusy hops, fairly standard for the style. A nice clear light copper body with a good frothy off white head, moderate retention and lace. Good mouth, a light medium body slick, nice fiz. Carmel malt flavor provides a decent backbone with a stronger hops bite then might be expected, this tastes more like a light IPA than a Pale Ale. Finish is dry and clean, alcohol not present (and I miss it.) This is a very acceptable session brew but there are better American Pales out there, I like Geary's alot more. Nothing wrong here, just a bit unbalanced, not enough malt but very drinkable. Rerate: 12/12/08 What was I thinking/drinking? Lovely malt backbone, great hops balance at the end, really nice brew!!!!!
