This is being bottled in Portland, Oregon now so maybe that's why I was able to get it in late September. Anyways, at first I wasn't sure if I like it, but after it warmed up for a minute (open) the flavor profile started to improve. If there are any special spices in there, they don't come out. Frankly, some of the winter beers out there are over spiced. The head could have lasted a little longer, but there was a tad bit of foam there. Nice amberish color. I would buy this again. NO! Make that, I WILL buy this again.

12oz bottle from the state wine store
Appearance: Pours crystal clear light golden with a nice sized white foamy head and lots of lacing
Aroma: Slightly sweet caramel malts, grassy and spices
Taste: Malty, grassy with a smooth pine bitterness in the finish
A nice beer.Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7
Pours a crystal clear amber with nice off white head. The aroma is rich roasted malts, mild piney to grapefruit hops and sweet malts. All well melded and inviting. I also get some grainy malts too. The taste begins with mild pine to grapefruit hop bitterness followed by chewy caramelized malts and some sweeter maltiness. Roasty malts seem to build some toward the finish. Nice offering.

A hop forward winter ale, this Powder Hound is a nice addition to the Big Sky lineup. Lots of citrus in the aroma and flavor with hints of Biscuit, earth and some fruit notes as well. a deep brown body with thin lace, ok mouthfeel, overall it a pretty decent brew.

Loved Trout Slayer so I thought I would try another one. Powder Hound pours a nice dark amber color with a very fluffy head. Not much of an aroma at all. Lightly metallic taste that feels watered down. I just had a stout before this so it might be affecting my taste buds. I will try this one again just to update my review.

Picked this up on my annual "try all winter beers available in ND" trip to the beer store and was very pleased. Another solid offering from Big Sky. Pours a reddish brown with a off white head. Aroma of some floral and citrusy hops, caramel, and malt. Taste is unique--some hop bitterness balanced by sweet malts, caramel, and a little tartness. I could see myself drinking several of these in an evening.

light-medium bodied, leaving me wanting more from this winter beer. the malt nose and flavor, with a slighlty dry hop finish is pleasing, if a little on the light side. probably won't be back for this one.

Pours dark brown with perfect clarity and small, lasting head. Aroma boasts sweet malt notes of toffee and caramel. The flavor begins with some of that same sweet malt character but the finish is bitter-dry. Overall pleasant and balanced. Medium bodied with moderate-to-strong carbonation.
