The French-speaking region of southern Belgium is the birthplace of saison. As a tribute to this artisinal institution, we offer our own brisk, unruly saison. It is both rustic and subtle, robust yet effervesent, spicy and fruity. Note: This beer has been retired.

Bottle from theisti. Shared at a Not so secret Monday Night tasting at SL - but no Robert???? The pour was golden in color, modest head for a saison. The aroma was light and wheaty, gentle spices. The flavor was wheaty, spiced (lightly), bananas, grass, an easy drinker, slight hop zing in the finish. Spices could have been stronger, wanted more pepper, but overall this was pleasant and easy drinking even if not a perfect Saison.

A hazy gloden body with plenty of floaters, a thick white head that left plenty of lace. A nice flavor of citrus, yeast, coriander, and spice. All were nicely balanced, this is a easy drinking saison thats worth a try.

Great example of a Saison. Poured fromn the bottle (750ml) nicely, forming a nice, tall, creamy, head. Aroma is spicy, bitter, citrus. Flavor is amazing. Very well balanced and not overpowering or heavy. Hops and pear with orange peel and cinnamon. Mouthfeel has a lingering smoothness and rich velvet texture. Finish is clean with light hints of pine and orange.

Fairly clear golden color with a booming white head. The aroma is funk, floral and fresh fruits, I’m thinking pear, apple and banana. Light-bodied, crisp and very refreshing. The flavors are barnyard funk and fruity, mostly the same noted in the aroma with perhaps the addition of peaches. I pick up some clove as well. A light acidic spice mixes in nicely bringing the flavors together. This isn’t overly complex but just flat out tasty and drinkable with no real flaw and I’m fine with that. A damn fine drink really.

Had this on tap over at the MAlt House: Poured a super hazey golden colour with a fluffhead that kept on fluffing. Some grapefruit, orange peel and spices on the nose. Taste was creamy, lots of carbonation making it spritzy and alive. And some well integrated spice notes.

THis beer pours a gold color with a nice white head. SMell of fruit (bananas, citrus) with spices. Flavor of spice with a hint of fruit. Decent lacing and goes down really easy.

I have heard a lot about the Boulevard Smokestack Series, but being out on the East Coast, I had never had the chance to sample any. On my most recent trip to Norman, OK, I was able to pick up a bottle of a few different flavors. The first one I sampled with my friends was the Saison.
When I poured the beer into my glass, I noticed the beer had a hazy, light yellow look to it. There was a fairly small, platinum white head on it. Although it was small, it stuck around for the whole drink, leaving no lacing behind though. The aroma was very good though and I thought it had a lot going on. The first thing that I noticed was the yeast. There was a weird mixture of dough and barnyard going on there, with a neat bubble gum smell in the background. Mixed in with all of this was a spicy clove and/or coriander smell.
When it came time to drinking the beer, I was really impressed with the clean, crisp drinkability of this one. It had a somewhat lively carbonation level. The flavor was fairly decent, but nothing great when it comes to saisons. I picked up on the yeasty flavors, wheat, and even a hint on citrus on the back of my tongue.
Overall, I liked this one, but it's not my favorite when it comes to saisons. Still it's a decent brew and a lot better than most of the beers you find in a store. -

I guess I’m on the left side of the bell curve on this one. Pour looked good, light orange with nice finger head and decent lacing. Mild barnyard aroma. The flavor was dry and yeasty with a decent level of peppery spice and maybe some coriander, but very little fruity malt flavor. Not sweet at all and not very much, if any, barnyard funk in it either. This was just a drab attempt at a saison in my book.

Not too Bad... I am starting to realize that I might like this style of beer too much. Hazy Yellow with some head. Nice finish and medium body. Flavor was banana and clove and some other stuff.
Food Pairing: Lobster Mac N' Cheese with a Mascarpone cheese sauce.
