Our Bourbon Barrel Quad is based loosely on the Smokestack Series' Sixth Glass. This abbey-style quadruple, after fermentaion on tart Oregon cherries, was seperated into a number of oak bourbon barrels, where it aged up to a year. Carefully selected barrels were then blended with fresh beer before bottling. The affect of barrel aging on this warming, full bodied brew is quite remarkable: the cherry characteristics have all but disappeared, while the toffee and vanilla notes have come to the fore. A lingering trace of bourbon aroma enlivens the plummy, estery nose. This massive beer stands well on its own, or as a digestif to be savored after a meal. It pairs well with sweets such as flourless dark chocolate tortes, or with strong cheeses, dates, figs, and nuts. Bourbon Barrel Quad is an excellent candidate for long-term cellaring, and will develop even more character and complexity over time.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark amber colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla, hints of molasses and fusel alcohols. Smooth and pleasant flavour, bourbon, oak and vanilla again, hints of brown kandij sugar but not very sweet. Warming mouthfeel.

Part of the Boulevard Smokestack Series. 2015 edition. Best before 30/09/2017. Pours a cloudy deep amber colour with a warm cap, decent retention with some mild creamy lacing. Lots of particles of different sizes running through it. Very sweet aromas with many dark fruits (raisins, plums, dates), caramel, toffee, burnt sugars and some spices. The taste is sweet, but not as rich as expected which makes it easier to drink. Still the dark fruits, caramel with some hints of molasses. A slight dry finish. Goes down very easily. A little too rich to have a big bottle though.

Pours a reddish brown color into a snifter. Small light tan head. Some sporadic lacing. Aromas of cherry, malt, oak, bourbon and a hint of vanilla. Sour cherries start the journey of tasting, followed by bourbon, malt, plums, some yeasty funk, a hint of vanilla and some oak on the finish. Lively carbonation and full mouthfeel. Not a style that I usually drink, but an wonderful representative of the style. I think a year or two of aging would be interesting. Guess I have to pick up some more. Try this beer!

A reddish-amber colored beer with a big frothy textured whitish-beige colored head rising above. There's some hang time on the head. A light ringlet is left. Boozy-oak-bourbon nose. High octane slickness on the tongue. Some cherries creep in in the tasting. I had recently read an article on reviving an old practice of heating the ale. This one was worth a try and gently warmed the flavors come forth so much more brightly then even at room temperature.

Pours out dark murky, unfiltered with a big massive long lingering head. The aroma had distinct notes of cherry and oak. The mouthfeel is solid and thick. The taste is complex and so well balanced it covers the high ABV. I like the suttle sweetness.

Pours a clear chestnut with a thick, fluffy, and rather persistent buff head that leaves good lacing. Malty, fruity aroma has a strong overtone of bourbon-soaked wood. Bourbon and oak dominate the flavor; but malty, nutty and subtle fruity notes peek through. Firm texture has some good fizz to it, and it leaves a bold bourbon bite.

Got this one from Chef Chad several months ago, waited to share it with worthy friends. Uncorked at the Hootenanny in the late afternoon. Light cloudy reddy brown pour with little head nor lacing. Nice bourbon aroma right upfront, big maltiness and toffee candy and yeasties - Belgian-style - with light ripe fruits, some vanilla, warming alcohol. This Mother also tastes exquisite: bourbon, vanilla, Belgian yeasts, toffee, fruits, goodness. This is one hell of a beer. Glad I waited to share it with some who could appreciate the Epicness of it. Thank you Chad for a damn fine beer; everyone enjoyed it.

#2359 of 11248 bottles!
Smells of oak, bourbon, malt, cherries, sugar, yeast there is a lot going on here. Pours a Hazy brown with a good thin white head that will last. More than medium body, good carbonation and a zippy finish. Very balanced flavor here with all that is going on. Strong bourbon that is balanced by cherry. Good bready malt backbone and burt belgium sugar. I really enjoyed drinking this one. -

This poured a murky brown color with an off white head. The aroma contains some brown sugar, molasses, caramel, and whiskey. The flavor is pretty much the same as above. A rather boozy finish but not overwhelming. Overall a very nice beer in small amounts.

Aroma of yeast, alchohol and bourbon, with a two-finger head, good retention and nice lacing. Smooth and medium-bodied, with good carbonation. Flavor of malt, bourbon, vanilla and cherries; very similar to what a Jack and Vanilla Cherry Coke would taste like, without the alchohol burn of the Jack. Would love to try this again.
