Aroma is clean although non-descript. Pours a huge frothy head that takes a long time to collapse. Reminds me of a rootbeer float head, its so frothy. Dark dark brown color. Cloudy due to yeast from bottle. Very deep raisiny flavor. Slight alcohol presents in taste, but not overwhelming. Not overly carbonated and not overly heavy in the mouthfeel. Very smooth to drink. Definately an awesome beer, which it pretty much better be at $10/bottle (Ledger’s Liquors, Berkeley, CA).

Dark with light brown head. Smell was of sweet fruit with an essence of plum. Very pleasant flavor of fruit and seemed diffrent in the fact that it wasn’t bitter as other trappist are. Update: Recently had a five year aged bottle. It was very nice I think the flavor and aroma of the fruit was more pronounced. The taste was strong but the alcohol tangy bite had changed to a moderate tingle. Still pleasant from start to finish!

From bottle at a tasting at Bar & Cigar. Clear mahogany with a beige head. Aroma of raisins, dried fruits, plums and malt with caramel and notes of spices and fortified wine. Sweet, but balanced. Complex and flavourful. Fullbodied with fairly soft carbonation. Quite delicious sipper.

Bottle at pub in Belgium. Wow, this made my trip to Belgium worth it. This was an awesome beer. From the pour which was dark brown color with a nice creamy head with lots of lace left in the glass. The aroma was bold with plenty of malt. The taste was well balanced with malts and hops with Belgium sugar.

Big ass rocky light tan head.Big ole chunks of lace hangin on to the bottom of the glass.Cinnamon in the nose with some earthy aromas. Kinda tart.Hazy brown color wwith orange highlights.Interesting spiceyness.Alcohol is well hidden.Fairly spritzy on the tongue.Sweet finish.Good beer, interesting.Much more drinkable than i had imagined.

Dark brown with a good amount of yeast on the bottom. Good light brown head. Nice mouthfeel, very full and really no alcohol flavor and warmth, which is amazing for 11.3%. The flavor was a little sweet and very fruity like plums and raisins. Made me think of a creamier Old Peculier with brandy. For the price I expected a more complex flavor though. Still a really great beer.

Rating from Aug. 2006. Consumed at about 65F. Dark brown murky color with sediment floating around. Bubbly light tan head that lasted to the end. Aroma is complex and on the light side. I think I smell sweet malts, cherries, grapes, cinnamon, other spices and alcohol. The flavor is really silky smooth with melded flavors making it difficult to distinguish. There are spice flavors, beat sugar, sweet malts and a hint of alcohol. Very nice beer.

C: Deep Mahogany, ruby highlights, long lasting generous head
A: Dark fruit, candy sugar, roasted malt, chocolate
P: Full bodied
F: Well balanced, sweet nutty malt tones up front, bitter burnt sugar notes in the end
O: All three Rochefort beers are pretty much identical (they start out as the same virgin batch) but the length of time they leave the batch in the vat really allows the beer to improve leaving the 10 a much better beer than the 6Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8
Pours out a deep brown color with no head. The aroma of alcohol is very present with hints of spice. The mouthfeel is smooth but has some sting from the alcohol. To get the best taste it's best to let it warm up. To get the best taste from this ale. Shake up the laste two ounces in the bottle. Then hold on to your taste buds.
