A blackish-brown colored beer with a very big sudsy textured light tan head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. A thick ringlet and film are left. A light roasty nose, some rye. Sweet malt and spicy rye are so nicely blended in the tasting. Light-medium bodied.

Pours a warm coffee brown with a thick, light tan head that leaves some generous lacing. Aroma has notes of quality coffee and woody hops, plus hints of chocolate and licorice. Delightful flavor trots coffee, woody hop, roast malt and subtle chocolate and licorice notes across the palate - but a hint of overheated plastic detracts just a tad. Sorry, no perfect rating. Maybe it’s from the wax used to seal the bottle. Texture is fairly firm, smooth yet fizzy, so it goes down quite well. Happy Anniversary, Boulder Beer Company - and may you have at least ten times that many more.

22 oz wax covered bottle. Pours reddish brown with a huge creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is roasted caramel and molasses malts and spicy rye with piney hops and a bit of leather.

The flavor is sweet cola malts and molasses with a lot of roast piney bitterness and a bit of spicy rye. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is slightly watery.

Overall, an OK black IPA. It's a bit thin and sweet.
