Typical Big Rock offering, i.e., average at best and usually sub-par. Granddaughter and her boyfriend left a couple behind; I would never have bought this one. Murky dark brown pour under a scant brown head. At least it did make a ring. Aroma was coffee, maybe some dark chocolate. Best served at room temperature. Thin mouthfeel, flavour was like the taste, and a bland finish. Humdrum.

A winter seasonal in Canada's Wild Rose country, but not a very good one. It pours a dark brown with reddish hilights and a tan coloured head which is creamy and lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, chocoalte, coffee, and sour garbage. The flavour is weakly coffee with hints of chocolate, malt, and acid.

Seasonal specialty, special 6 pack box with four bottles of Espresso Stout, two tall fluted Kolsch-style glasses, and a bag of espresso bean chocolates from Les Truffles (a Calgary chocolate company). On sale at Willow Park, have been saving one since winter. I had tasted this at last year's Beerfest, and was pleasantly suprised to see it on the shelves - even if only for a limited time. Poured into the glass it came with. Color is dark, basically black, deep red when held up to the light. Tan brown foam that retains a good thick head and leaves thin long lasting lacing. The nose has some roasted malt and a bit of coffee. More pronounced as it warms, but not as rich as some other stouts. The flavor is good, blend of roasted malt and coffee. I was mildly disappointed and think this is less flavorful and lots thinner than when I originally tasted it. Seems it may have been toned down a bit for the general public - just my opinion, I could be way off. 'Subdued' is a good description. Nice to see some more experimenting from Big Rock, look forward to more specialties. Nice package, as I gave a couple to friends for Christmas (rather than bringing wine).

whoa. i had hopes for this brew for some reason. poured with no head. no lacing. aroma reminds me of dust. stale coffee bean dust. taste is reaching for the sky with an enormous amount of dull. aftertaste? it has to taste first. it wetted my mouth, but now makes me want a real beer. thats about all i can say about this. k bye.

Extremely dark brown body very close to being black slight reddish highlights around the edge of the glass, the small cap that was created during the pour all but vanished very quickly, nice looking body but shitty cap. Where the hell is the aroma, where is the intense coffee and chocolate aroma’s the bottle brags about, I almost smell nothing just some faint sour maltiness and that’s it. What the hell again, this taste like nothing its brown water, robust flavor (as stated on the bottle) my ass. There is some slight burnt malts coming through, but this is so watered down. This was a waste of beer, but it was drinkable because no flavor didn’t taste bad, but once again Big Rock has produced a sub par beer.

Poured a minescule brown head with little retention and almost zero lacing that sat on top of a dark brown brew. Aroma is quite good and consists of fresh burnt coffee beans, some chocolate, dusty, ....fish? can that be? and light hops. This beer needs more flavour and it would be a lot better. Tastes of burnt coffee and some malts. Taste is not terrible by any means, but very dissapointing for a stout. Then again, this is Big Rock. I don't think they can do a stout properly. Way too watery for repeated enjoyment. Chalky finish and a weak dry bitterness. Seems light to medium bodied, nice carbonated swish and fairly smooth. Drinkable, but unsatifying.

Brewed with a combination of roasted barley malts and freshly ground espresso beans to produce a rich robust flavour. The intense coffee flavour is delicious on its own or as a perfect compliment to chocolate. Holiday favourites such as Christmas cake and plum pudding go very well with this unique dessert beer.
