Belhaven St. Andrew's Amber Ale

this poured a clear amber color with a lot of bubbles stuck to the bottom of the glass and some around it. the head was off-white, foamy and long-lasting .the aroma was kinda pretty grainy. Thin mouth feel and lacks some punch in the flavor

355 ml capped and translucent bottle. Poured a clear dark amber-chesnut or old reddish copper coloured ale with a generous one finger slight beige creamy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is mild caramel and slight roasted malts, floral hops. The flavour is slight roasted malts, nice floral hops, spicy, peppery, a point of acidity, notes of fruits, apricots. The moutfeel is fizzy and creamy. This light to medium bodied ale has a dry hoppy bitter finish. An easy drinkable ale.

interesting ale! it poured clear, amber and near headless. but what was there stayed...kinda like a mans sidewalls. It smells like a field of clover..I sipped it expecting a wallop of hop, which i got, but it left my tastebuds politely as it slipped down my throat. Funny how it packs a punch up front , then the taste just vanishes..whats missing? the bitterness. Thats why it is interesting to me.. It kinda loves me all at once, then runs away. I will leave the easy analogies to you..but its a worthy and solid offering.

I must first say that I think I may have received an old bottle. Looks a bit like the beer was starting to break down. Maybe thats how it is supposed to look. Don't know for sure, but I'm going to give it a fair review anyhow. My appearance didn't quite match the description of other reviews. It was cloudy with lots of sediment floating around throughout the body. Very nice thick, barely off white head with ok retention. The color of the beer itself is unique in my opinion. Sort of an apple cider colr. Caramel even. Very light gold at the top and bottom of the glass. Maybe the color influenced me, but I'm picking up a sweet caramel with ripe apples in the nose. Breadiness hides in the background. A negligible sour dough smell also. Rich caramel apple in the taste. Detecting a wheat bread flavoring also. Nice and pleasant. Touch of the sour dough comes though evenly. Medium mouthfeel. Goes down smooth. Just a bit watery in my opinion. Doesn't linger on the palate too long. Not a bad thing however. This is a unique beer for me. The color was different and the aroma and flavoring were very similar. All in all, I liked the change. Definitely was not what I was expecting when I picked this bottle up. I could sit down with this for an evening for sure. For me, however I probably wouldn't drink this two nights in a row. I have a feeling this is an "old styl" beer. Glad I tried it though.

Another Belhaven brew at the LCBO... I like this brewery (so nice). Pours a clear amber colour with a whole bunch of bubbles stuck to the bottom of the glass and some around it. The head is off-white, big, frothy, long-lasting and creates good foamy and creamy lace. At first pour, the scent is pretty grainy (but not the usual one) with some burnt malt in it. Then, heavy doses of hop come lurking out. The taste is pretty light, with some caramel malt and a little roasted ones in the back. Thin mouthfeel and lacking some punchiness in the flavours. It is what it is... an easy drinking Scottish ale.

Bottle: Poured a copper color ale with a large foamy head with great retention and very good lacing. Aroma of medium caramel malt with light dry hoppy finish. Taste is a well rounded mix between some hoppy dry English style hops and some timid caramel malt. Body is about average with super great carbonation thought. Not bad and quite drinkable.

My first Scottish ale. The color was beautiful, deep orange with a nice head that laced my glass somewhat. It was a smooth beer with floral aromas. However, the taste was quite odd to me. I remember saying to my friend it reminded me of floor cleaner. Not terrible but not great.

Updating my rating of this now I’ve tried the bottled version . On tap this is a mellow rounded ESB with a fair body and bready finish. The bottle version is weaker in character and has a few sharp edges to it. I’ll buy it on tap but never as a bottled import. Not worth the price. Downgraded 1.3 on the bolled version

Very nice sourish, bitterish malt aroma. Very good coppery reddish-brownish color. Taste is smooth and round, with some hints to fruits and nuts. Very good smooth aftertaste.

Nice appearance, but not the best Scottish Ale I've had the pleasure to try. Copper body, a lot more malt than hop. In fact hops were barelt detectable. Not mich complexity.
