Samuel Adams Wee Heavy was inspired by both traditional Scotch ales and Scotch whiskies, for a combination of deep roasted flavor and earthy smoke character. Traditional Scottish ales vary in intensity with the strong ales known as Scotch Ale or “Wee Heavy”. To create our own version of the style we added peat smoked malt to bring the unique flavor of Scotland to this complex and satisfying brew.

This Wee Heavy was very nice and a bit heavy or thick. The malty scent gave way to the smoke peat which is the reason i love scotish ale so much. Campare to Traquair this does have a bit ways to go. The flavor was awesome. Smokey all the way down. I shared this with a friend who also is adventurous with his brew styles and it was a hit. Keep it coming.

Purchased on my trip to Vegas at the Total Wine store. Third of the Sam Adams Imperial Series tonight (Nov. 17). Pours a dark brown colour with red highlights. Its head is creamy, tanned, long lasting and lacing is pretty thick all around. Aromas of dark malts, mild dark fruits and hints of smoke and farm. Silky mouthfeel with no burns at all. The taste is smooth with plums, dates, burnt wood and hints of peaty whiskey malt. Quite a nice smooth Wee Heavy from Samuel Adams that goes down nicely.

Quite nice. Pours dark ruby brown with no head. There's an awful lot going on here, not sure where to start. So yeah, what they said and a lot more. I was a little skeptical considering it's from a big brewer but in the end very pleasantly surprised.

Strong, malty flavor has notes of caramel, molasses and miso. It pours a barely translucent dark brown with a fairly thick light tan head that doesn't stick around too long but leaves some lacing. Strong flavor has an overtone that mixes molasses with caramel but is only slightly sweet. There is a touch of hoppy bitterness and a hint of toffee. Thick, full-bodied texture has a little fizz and leaves a malty, molasses, slightly woody finish.

A deep amber/ brownish body, the head was thick and frothy and left some o.k. lace. Aromas and flavors of sweet malts, smoky peat, leather, dark fruits, and some alcohol, mouthfeel was a little sticky and it had a slight carbonation bite. Overall a nice offering from Sam Adams.

Been wanting this for quite a while (help from champ103's review) .. . Pours a deep plum brown black, low foam, low to spots of lacing .. . i found the aroma to be quite weak, light tar, light dark molasses, plum skin, and maybe a 12yr old tobacco pipe .. . submarines .. . some dark fruit, some burnt molasses, booze, reduced brandy, rum, and maybe the slightest peat, i really wanted more smoke .. . enjoyable.. .

.. . A well made brew, maybe 6 months to calm down but about what i expected... . Dear Mrs. Simpson, while we were rescuing your husband, a lumber yard burned down. -

Beautiful beer here in every way possible. I really enjoyed how the whole beer came together. Very accessible to people just trying the style for the first time, and crafted well enough to please the experienced palate.
The aroma was probably the weakest aspect of the beer, as I felt the aromas were kept under wrapes just a bit. Leather, light smoke, toffee bar/Skor, and malts were all present. The aroma was just a preview of the wonderful flavors about to be consumed. Dark fruits, molasses, toffee, earthy/wet/dirty malts, smoke and just a hint of spicyness that I attributed to the hops. Smooth, full body...just a bit sticky. Amazing that this quality of a beer can be found for $2.50 a bottle. Well worth the money. -

Holy Smoke! and I do mean "smoke"... very well done, smokey, peaty, earthy - like a good single malt scotch. Pours intensely deep ruby to mahaogony with a thin head that laces in a most elegant and stellar fashion. Earthy tones front to back on the pallette with the peat flavors fading to the rear in favor of sweet malt. ABV is masked nicely but apparent after consuming only one of these bold beers.

imperial series beer - THE most smokey beer of 8 in the style tonight. full feel, almost sticky, sweet...almost overly so...not quite, but quite pleasant overall. the peat and smokiness won me over a little. dark and thick.

Smells of cork, peat and a little smoke. Pours darker than I expected… deep ruby (walnut) with a nice foam cap that slowly disappears leaving a generous lace on the glass. Whoa daddy, this is one helluva complex brew. Smoke, leather and earth predominate the palate. The finish is sharp and peaty mellowing to a malty sweetness. The 10% ABV is kicking me arse! I never expected this from Sam Adams. Bravo!
