Whenever I am fortunate to make it back to my old stomping grounds, I usually try to head out to Boston Beer Works outside the gates of Fenway Park in Boston, MA. This past time it was Christmas time and they had Kris Kringale Holiday Red on tap. Sounded great to me and I ordered some up.

I was really confused by the name and the description of the beer. When I think "holiday" beers I think of strong ales with fruit and spices. When reading the description though, it seems like the BBW folks were going for something similar to the Rogue St. Rogue Red Ale. It was apparent when the beer arrived, this one was straight up BBW's attempt at a dry hopped red ale.

The beer has a dark brown color to it with a reddish hue to it. The head was a finger thick and was slightly off white. The dry hop process was really apparent in the aroma. The hops were blended nicely with a light citrus in the aroma.

The flavor was pretty good, but not great. Based on the description and the aroma, I was really expecting a super hopped beer. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as "bold" as I had expected it to be. There was a definite dryness that was left in your mouth after swallowing it. It did drink smooth and was enjoyable. Just nothing too special.
