One can never go wrong with a dark beer.,…right? This beer pours with a dark brown pour with a light brown cap that sticks around. There is some roasted malt in the nose with hints of caramel, yeast, and spices. The flavour is as complex as the aroma with notes of coffee, caramel, yeast, and honey. I could drink a lot of this if it wasn’t 8.5%

Dark brown, almost black with very bubbly off-white foam head. Reducing, but lasting and lacing. Aroma is caramel with some fruit and honey tones. Taste is similar, short caramel toned little bitter aftertaste. (Velp 201211)

Shared bottle, as Barbar Bok, at local tasting, ABV was 8.5%. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Strong malty and alcoholic aroma and flavour, hints of honey. A bit better than average, but not really my cup of tea.

Yes. I too had this at Coopers and it was fantastic! Deep dark mahogany, fluffy two fingered sized head. Plummy, dark cherries and brown sugar all throughout. Aroma is fruity as well. Rich and decently malted. Nice hot alzohol coming through in the finish.

Served on draught in the proper mug (see pending? beer image) at Coopers. A deep mahogany body with a tan head that rapidly dissipates. Both nose and palate are presented with rich sweet roasted malt and ample honey. Malt-brown-sugar-honey-sweet, taste of belgian yeast, with a sweet-tangy finish. Unusual but very good. MUSIC: "Night" by Bill Callahan. "We stand under it / But we don't understand it / The door that holds you / Silent as glue."

Bottle: Poured a clear dark ruby color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sugary dry fruit and candy is some what appealing. Taste is also dominated by candi with clear sugar notes and light dry fruit ester. Body is a bit thin for style with good carbonation and no alcohol was apparent. Not too bad overall though a bit too sweet for my own taste.

Nice leave of lace sits on top of this Belgian Brown Bok. Pleasant aromas of brown sugar and caramel tantalize the nostrils, with the flavors of the same to match. A very nice warm alcoholic finish with mild spice and honey notes wraps up this vinter warmer. Barbar makes a very tasty Winter Belgian Bok.

The Barbar Winter Bok (aka Barbar De Noel) was one of the beers I had at Max's 72-hours of Belgian Beers Fest. In fact, it was my last beer that I enjoyed the festival.
When the beer was handed to me it was a very dark brown in color with virtually no head at all. In fact it almost looked flat. I wasn't sure how to take this, but there was a very well balanced malt and doughy yeast smell emitting from the glass. In fact, upon further inspection I picked up on this wonderful plum and/or maybe even dark berry aroma that got stronger as the beer was allowed to breathe.
The taste flat out awesome. So much so, I'd go as far as saying there was a party in my mouth with this one. We are talking about a wonderful wintery sweet base of honey, toffee, and slight earthy yeastiness, with a really nice raisin and plum flavor on top. This is a total winter warmer that you want to drink while sitting fireside after a long day of skiing.
Well what can I say other than this was a very well crafted brew that I really enjoyed. In fact it was my second favorite beer that I sampled at the brewfest. I would love to score some of this in a bottle. -

2Presentation: It was poured from a brown 11.2oz bottle into a snifter. Appearance: It pours a very dark brown color that has coppery highlights. The body is nearly opaque and it forms a big tan foamy head that has very good retention. It also makes nice lacing on the glass. Smell: The aroma has sweet, fruity and spicy character with just a hint of hops. Taste/Mouth feel: The flavor has a wonderful natural sweetness from the honey and malted barley. Dark sweet fruit notes of raisins, figs and plums mix with coriander, bitter orange peel and a touch of earthy yeast. Hop flavor is very mild and adds just a hint of bitterness. The alcohol adds a nice warming quality and it finishes slightly dry. Its palate is medium to full bodied with a smooth creamy texture that is tempered by its lively carbonation. Notes: This is another great Belgian treat.

Dark ruby brown. Sweet amlty aroma of honey, cookies and toffee. Sweet and a bit slick flavour of honey, candied nuts and toffee. Nuts and honey in the sweet long aftertaste.
