A wonderful spirit of comaraderie, cooperation and mutual support exists in the world of craft brewing. We have harnessed this spirit fully in the crafting of this special collaborative brew dedicated to the resilient people of Japan who are bravely endeavoring to overcome the trajedy of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami. We tip our brewing hats to the quiet elegance and humble sophistication of Japanese culture through the judicious addition of Japanesehole leaf green tea to this big, bold, spicy and herbal IPA. Cheers, Japan!

Rated Sept. 2011. 12oz 9.2% ABV brew pours out semi hazy orange like copper with thin white head. The rather firm robust aroma forces up notes of booze enhanced orange juice, some herbal green-ness, citrus fruit skin, pineapple and tangelo. Man, lots going on here. The taste is similar with sort of an orange juice, tangelo juice and mango like hop flavor and a sense of booze. I get only a mild bitter hoppiness. Wow, lots of robust citrus and tropical fruit notes with hints of earthy tea like herbal hops well off in the background. All in all I dig this.

Pours lovely clear amber with a thick, fluffy, and rather persistent eggshell head. Strongly hoppy aroma has notes of fresh hay and Mandarin orange. Flavor is a winner, strongly hoppy and woody yet scarcely bitter, with notes of citrus and - yep, green tea. I LOVE green tea, and I drink it almost every day! Firm body has some good fizz. Don’t get teed, get a beer brewed with tea!

Never would have thought to put green tea and hops together but it sure does work. Smells great, mild tea flavor and tons of hop bitter. Really refreshing and well put together.

Pours a beautiful rosy-orange, totally opaque, with small, dense head. The aroma is sweet and floral with topnotes of fresh-cut grass. To me, it smelled girly and pretty. The flavor base is rich, hearty malt with sweet candy; the hop side is bright, compex, even challenging. I love this combination of hops for both the flavor attributes and nose. Full bodied, fairly smooth with serious warming affect. Brilliant collaboration! Big thanks to slowrunner for picking it out for me.

A pretty unasuming bottle but I guess when you are Stone and you are releasing an IPA, it better deliver...and this one does. The green tea really doesn't come out until it hits the palate and it's really nice. The beer pours out a light amber color, tons of floaties/particles in my beer with an initial 2" off-white head. Aroma has a kind of light alcoholic aroma, perfumy, beet sugar thing going on with a really light hop aroma. The flavor comes out though with both barrels blasting. A really nice combo of green tea and piney/sappy hops. The green tea really suprised me on how assertive it was against the hops. Carbonation is medium, mouthfeel is medium. When the carbonation lightens up a bit, the green tea really comes out a little more. Really a nice beer. -

An interesting combination of flavors here, the herbal notes of tea, combined with citrus, and pine hops, a dose of candi sugar, and a ever so slight alcohol presence. The body is a murky apricot, with a nice thick head that left some nice lace. Overall a rather nice beer, a bit pricey but worth a try.

A trade from Slowrunner77. What a fantastic IPA! Quite simply, it looks like an IPA. The green tea makes a great equalizer for the double dry hopping. The green tea flavor isn't exactly strong, but makes it smooths out the bitterness beautifully. A slight hint of candi sugar. There are definitely several unique flavors, which I can attribute to the odd hop varieties. Smooth and mildly bitter finish. Thank you so much Chris! That was delicious!

Wow, this is a most interesting beer. Who'd have thought, tea and beer? It works! A cloudy, on pour orange colored beer. A small foamy textured white head rises briefly above. It settles fairly quickly, leaving practically no lacing. Floral hops and sweet green tea are in the nose and more so in the tasting. The hops are dominant but not so as to overwhelm the sweetness of the tea. A light-medium bodied. Smooth and well carbonated. Sorry I didn't pick up a few more of these.

at 9.2% really toes the line between single and double ipa (stronger than Ruination by quite a bit). Medium bodied, first whiff is all floral hops and sweetness (candi sugar) but the malt definitely makes it's presence known and balances the beer well. the green tea comes in as an herbal smell, a little more obvious in the flavor as it warms...and the mix of hops used (especially the sorachi ace) is unique and blend well together. nice brew. you can definitely taste the baird and stone influences clearly.

It pours a solid golden with a thick white head and some surrounding lacing. An aroma of bready malts, hops, pine and grass, grapefruit and other citrus fruits, green tea, bitterness, light alcohol and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and fairly rich. Flavors of bready caramel malts, hops, grapefruit and citrus, tea leaves, bitterness, alcohol and spiciness. It's good, yet not a knockout performance.
