Anchor Porter is a unique dark brew, which was introduced by Anchor in the early 1970s. Anchor Porter, like all of Anchor Brewing Company's products, is brewed with only natural ingredients. Specially roasted dark malts are used, along with a top-fermenting yeast. The brew is hopped at a very high rate, and is naturally carbonated to produce an intensely rich flavor and thick creamy head. The rich flavor of Anchor Porter has earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality.

(355 ml bottle, bought in London). Pours with a large tan head, colour is very dark, nearly black (= very, very dark ruby when held to the light). Lovely complex aroma where coffee, dark chocolate, prunes, oak and sandalwood shine through. Flavour is initially sweet and mellow, then a distinct bitterness comes through. Coffee notes are dominant. There's something undefined strange in the aftertaste that keeps me from giving it a straight "10". Still, this is a top class porter!

Pours deep dark brown almost black with a thick head that lingers. The aroma is chocolate, coffee and malt. It has a thick mouthfeel with just a slight hop bitterness. The taste is of chocolate, coffee and malt just like it smells.

Clear dark ruby, dark brown with light brown foam head. Aroma is quite strong, burned coffee, bit caramel. Taste is little caramel, dominated by bitter cold coffee. Aftertaste is lasting. (Velp 201305)

Ruddy black coffee color with a rocky tan head. Sour smokey aroma with some caramel sweetness. Flavor better than smell: 2 big notes while it's cold are charred wood up front & bitter citrus hops at the back. Caramel emerges and gets stronger over time. Wet for a porter, but fine carbonation & lacing. Great with sour cuisine.

Pours a dark brown/black with a nice sized chocolaty brown head that takes its time. Aroma is fairly tame with hints of malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste is a disappointment to say the least. Fairly dry with a metallic ting to it. Malts are present but that's about it. Even for a fairly low ABV you can taste a bit of it. I am somewhat disappointed in this brew even though I am giving it a higher rating, due to the aroma and appearance. Over rated but it is an ok beer.

pours a dark black with hints of brown/amber with a nice full pillowed head, leaving some nice lacing. The aroma is of roasted malts, but not overpowering. This isn't a really strong aromatic beer. The taste is the dark roasted malts up front, with slight hints of coffee and chocolate notes. The mouthfeel is medium body with a ok feel. Carbonation is mild. Note porters and stouts are not my favorite style. Don't like coffee.

A very nice, toffee/caramel flavor seems to dominate this drink. Seemingly light-bodied, I find this to be my go-to beer, one that I can drink at any time, in any mood. Just a fantastic porter! I keep drinking this one cold out of the refrigerator, and I keep telling myslef I'll try it at room temperature, but haven't, yet. It seems like it would even be good warmed up a little on a cold night! Highly recommended!

This porter is lighter in colour than a lot of porters being closer to dark brown than black. Aroma is a lot of the usual culprits with roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, molasses, and nuts. The flavour is a nice complex mix of the same. Great sweet flavour rounded out by a bitter finish.

355 ml capped bottle. Poured an unfiltered opaque rich-burgundy, nearly black, coloured Porter with a good three fingers tan creamy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is roasted malts and rich roasted coffee beans, notes of spices, licorice. The flavour is deep roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is creamy, sparkling and very smooth. This medium bodied ale has a dry fruity and malty finish. A superb Porter, easy drinkable and well balanced.

drank out of bottle in my new half yard glass .. . pours a dark brown with a massive head. Light roast and charcoal, not thick like most of the dark beers i've sampled. A good beer, but with the warmer months arriving, i am still a lager lover..
