This slow-aged beer is one of our award-winners. Like its many Maritime fans, you’ll find its fleeting bitterness and light, malty aroma irresistible.

This beer is far too sweet to be taken seriously. The Oland Brewery has some decent brands; this unfortunately is not a good indication of their overall skill. It has a sweet nose with a cloy aftertaste. When extremely cold this beer is drinkable in-between better brews. Recommended Drinking Location and Situation: Best consumed while fishing for lobster on the north shore on a cold morning after a big whiskey booze up with the local boys.

Can. Colour - pale straw colour, clear, half inch white frothy head, very little lacing. Aroma - wet cardboard, grass, musty hops. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, too much carbonation. Flavour - stale grainy malt up front, weak bitter musty hop finish.

There was a time when one could easily sample 90% of the beers brewed in Canada, mainly just by visiting the capital city in each province and asking for directions to the bar with the most taps. Then the 80s turned into the 90s and there was change afoot. It was during those mid-80s days when I tried the Oland and Moosehead beers for the first time on a trip to Halifax. Sadly, I was presented with a string of pale gold beers with white heads, and a definite grainy malt presence in the nose and taste. Fast forward 30 years, and nothing has changed.

The beer pours a translucent pale gold colour with a snow white foamy cap and a little bit of effervescence. The aroma is cereal malt, grass, and weak floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt, with some soapy bitter notes. The lack of phenolic and metallic notes puts this above most Canadian pale lagers. -

Not available in Ontario and Quebec (where it is easy for me to get beer - living between those two provinces), I had to try this one in New-Brunswick (where it is brewed). Nice to go on tour with the band, and to go to that province once again. Pours a pale yellow colour (like a light beer ??) with lots of carbonation, a big white foamy head that has decent retention and lots of lacing. The nose is pretty malty with a little sweetness. The malt seems lighter in the taste, with a little hop in the middle, mild apple in the finish and some corn in the aftertaste. Not much sweetness, maybe a touch in the start. Lots of lace left on the glass, way after drinking it. I remember not liking this beer many years back when I had it in N.B. but now, I do not mind it (for swill). Nothing really special, but goes down easy when playing music there in a bar.

Oland Breweries brewed this at one time in Halifax. As you left the city via the Mic Mac rotary, you saw the placard on the Brewery's building. This was a popular beer in Nova Scotia in the 70s (and maybe still is). Golden brown in colour, slightly cloudy, and slightly hoppy. The mouthfeel is tinged with carbonation. The taste is pretty good considering the cloudy nature.

Better than the average Canadian lager - no question there. The aroma is fresh but lacks appeal. Sweet malts, corn and a slight floral hoppiness and some acceptable skunk thats not quite skunky. Bright gold clear (with the presence of some tiny stuff mixed in) brew that poured out a large white rocky head that quickly dissipated to a ring and film that leaves ok spotty lacing. This is a light, weak flavoured beer that has mild dry malts and corn with a hint of bitterness that mixes in well. There is nothing that offends here - taste is just weak. The flavour didn't last and now it's just bland. Watery impression. More sourness that fades now and more obvious bitterness. Thin mouthfeel, highly carbonated and sometimes leaves a harsh bitter aftertaste. A decent beer that just needs more flavour. Nothing that I would ever specifically get a craving for but does the trick when getting blasted with the freaks from the atlantic provinces.

golden adjunct lager..pretty much the cheapest brew on the east coast...fizzy...weak head, that won't last, corny sweetness in the nose and weak body with a dry finish...cheap beer that won't kill you but there is lots better.

Sampled from a can that was brought back from New Brunswick. Makeup is predominantly a malt mix, far to the bready side of things. A little on the gritty side. Some copper notes with no discernable hops. Little balance and seems like it could use alittle more maturing... a little more ingredients too - this is a weak lager; low drinkability in my taste. This is right on par with all other Canadian macro swill.

I grew-up all over North America and have sampled as many international beers as possible. For my tastes there is not a better "session" beer in the world. There is no harsh aftertaste, limited bitterness, nice clear appearance, average head. The only drawback is a strong beer smell from the beer (and the drinker's afterwards), which puts some people off of it. All in all, my favorite Canadian Lager, hands down.
