Our Biere de Chocolat celebrates the long and lauded history of chocolate production in San Francisco. Our aim was to create a beer bursting with cocoa flavors and aromas, balancing sweet and savory to create a complex but quaffable chocolate brew. To accomplish this we partnered with Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco to create this rich brew brimming with chocolate character. Working with the unique flavors of Dandelion’s single-source beans, we created this decadent beer by layering in smoked and dark-roasted malts with citrusy Ivanhoe hops from Clearlake, CA. Finally, we added a blend of hand-roasted cocoa beans sourced from Madagascar and Río Caribe, Venezuela. The Madagascar beans add bright berry-cocoa flavors, while the Río Caribe adds dark chocolate and bourbon notes. A touch of vanilla rounds out the supporting flavors to create an eminently drinkable beer that is a chocolate lover’s beer through and through.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour. moderate beige head. Dryish aroma of roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, vanilla and unsweetened chocolate. The flavour is medium dry, with the same elements as the aroma. For those who fear a cloyingly sweet chocolate beer, this must be a nice surprise.

Bottle shared by @zmachine85. Medium bodied porter that pours nearly black, tight beige head, ample lacing throughout. Chocolate right up front in the aroma and taste, not overly sweet, but melded nicely with the porter. Roasted malts, hint of coffee, more cocoa. Very nice and mellow although distinctly chocolatey. Thanks Todd.

On tap at 10 East -

I am a sucker for a great chocolate beer. The two Sam's come to mind when I think of great chocolate beers (Smith with the Organic Chocolate Stout and Adams with the Chocolate Bock). So comparatively speaking, this failed. But on it's own it's not bad. Way, way to thin for my liking. An aroma of semi-sweet chocolate chip cookies, buttered toast and light vanilla. The flavor is strange...there is some light chocolate found, but it's very tea like...herbal, some dust...like a chocolate tea w/o any body. I really enjoyed my last Almanac beer, but this was lacking.

A big chocolate nose that has a strong roast finish. A nice black beer with frothy tan head. The flavor is initially quite chocolaty, then giving way to a nice palate cleansing roasty bitterness. The mouthfeel was a bit thin for me but overall a very enjoyable beer. Thank you to slowrunner, he stocked my cellar with one trade!

Kind of a delicious surprise even though the 2 previous Almanac brews were very solid. Wonderful pungent aroma of chocolate and vanilla, with light roasted malt. Smooth body and texture. Flavor of bakers cocolate, vanilla, light coffee and roast. Lighlty bittersweet. Nice!
