Pours opaque chocolate brown with a thick and frothy buff head. Aroma has chocolate, roast malt and nutty tones. Flavor has less chocolate and more malt, plus hoppy, nutty, woody, and subtle wheats tones. Mouthfeel has firm body if not much fizz. Make an odyssey to find it.

Never been a fan of the barrel aged experience, wood and hard alcohol residue doesn't belong in beer. A deep reddish-brown beer with hints of hard alcohol and wood in the nose. Flavour is rather 'dry' with sweet malt and spice overwhelmed by the oak.

Favre's a beast .. . Pours a purple black, sturdy creamy medium head .. . well, i hope your kids look like monkeys .. . slick .. simple but delicious, an underlining brilliance .. . tar, grape, plum, rum, and light fruit squares .. . good .. . you say shit alot..

Bottled October 2006 Pours a deep burgundy with substantial tan head that dissipates slowly. Dark fruity malt and sweet molasses to the nose. Taste is spectacular. A bit of the alcohol comes through among a balanced and complex burst of flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and moderately carbonated. Great drinkability, this is one to savor and analyze. One of the most enjoyable brews of this style I've tried recently.

Wowsers, this was tasty. Beer poured dark as night brown, with nice whitish head and lacing. Aroma was dark fruits and oak. This was an odd belgian...dark fruits, spices and chocolate (?) to go along with a strong bourbon/wine-like presence to go with the oakiness. Rich, sweet, thick, full, it's got it all. Delicious!

Oct 2006: Pours a dark brown with a low tan head. Dark fruit, oak, sweet, and alcohol abound in the aroma. Flowery, sweet, with a bit of alcohol in the flavor. Nice finish.

Feb 05 bottle. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a deep dark color from a cork finished 7050ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, brown sugar and lots of bourbon. Touch of wood. A medium to full bodied Belgian Strong Ale. Malts are dark fruits, brown sugar, bourbon, oak and a touch of chocolate. Lots of flavors mix and match in this beer: oak and fruit, chocolate and vanilla, brown sugar and spices, with lots of bourbon flavors throughout. Nice balance. Touch of alcohol bite at the finish, but nicely smooth. This beer is a nice example of bourbon barrel aging. The bourbon and oak flavors highlight and accentuate the malt flavors in the beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, touch of alcohol.

07.16.05 750ml bottle, BCTC evening. Hazy brown, little head fades quickly. Light banana and cherry juice, nuts, cocoa. Syrupy sweet and a bit overdone on the booziness. Dry, hot finish. Some medicinal thing happening throughout. Hell, despite it’s faults, I really dig this stuff. Thanks Dave.

Dark mahogany body with an ok head. There’s a big bit of oak and age in this one. Underneath that, there’s a little chocolate. This one was overpowered a little by the barrels.

Bottle (February 2005 drank in January 2006): Poured a deep ruby color ale with a quite large off-white foamy head with better then average retention. Aroma of alcohol is detectable with some sweet malt. Taste has definite bourbon presence with some semi-sweet malt. Body is definitely thinner then expected. I was expecting a bit more complexity from this beer – no yeast signature, alcohol taste too evident, thin body.
