The dark-amber Aecht Schlenkerla Weizen is unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle-conditioned. This smoked Weizen is brewed in Bamberg, Germany, with the following ingredients: Water, wheat malt, barley malt, aroma hops and top-fermenting Bavarian style Wheatbeer yeast. Only the barley grain is smoked during the malting process, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked (theoretically the wheat could be exposed to the Original Schlenkerla smoke kilning process as well. The smokiness of the resulting wheat, though, would be almost insignificant as the wheat is not able to retain the smoky flavor due to its lack of spelt). After fermentation in the fermentation cellar a precise amount of unfermented wort and original top-fermenting yeast are added to induce secondary fermentation in bottles and kegs. The ensuing Original Bottle Conditioning (Keg Conditioning) creates a complex smokey taste profile intertwined with banana, clove, vanilla like flavors.

Bottle. Colour – golden brown, hazy, off-white foamy head. Aroma – wheat, campfire. Cooked ham. Mouthfeel – medium bodied, medium carbonation. Flavour – burnt wood, wheat, light yeast. An interesting classic.

Pours a slightly hazy deep amber colour with a big creamy-frothy warm cap, great retention and very nice creamy full lacing. Big burnt wood aromas at first pour. Then, some banana notes from the weiss comes out as the smoke calms down. The taste is kind of sweet with the smoke on the side. Doesn't really sit well. Notes of maple sap in the finish. Not a fan of the mix. Much preferred their marzen version.

The beer poured a reddish-brown with a half inch thin white head. The aroma was baked ham, smoke, and weak floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is wheat, smoked wood, and baked ham. Quite good.

I am starting to get in to these smoked beers. Some work and some don't, but this passes. Aroma is of liquid smoke....heavy but not super overwhelming. Brings me back to the camp fire. The base is pretty much a dunkel. A murky medium brown appearance. Caramel malt and wheat is balanced well with light hop and smoke. One that I would recommend, unless of course, you don't care for BBQ or bacon!

Pours out out a very cloudy dark brown. The aroma is of is sweet. The mouthfeel is clean and mildly thick. The taste is rich of balanced malt and dark fruits. Well anyway I'm drunk and this is the last beer and its its still good.

Tried in Germany. This pours a cloudy golden-brown colour with a loose off-white head that doesn’t last. Burnt wood, light fruits, and wheat comprise the aroma of this beer. The burnt wood/bacon notes dominate the flavour leaving the fruitiness of the wheat behind. The favourite of the Aecht Schlenkerlas for me.

Pours a slightly murky dark honey orange with a 2 inch foamy light tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Aromas of smoked meat, smoked cheese, and some slight wheat and banana notes. Taste is of smoked meat/cheese up front with a definite wheat presence in the middle and finishing with a smoked wheat aftertaste. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good rauchbier that still allows the weizen to come across in the flavor.

the most unique of their line...bubble gummy wheat - meet smoke. smoke - meet bubble gummy wheat. very nice aroma and flavor profile. blends well. the aroma at first was less smokey than the others, but that changed fast when it warmed up. very nice beer i'll be returning to often.

A deep amber colored beer with a big ligh tan head rising above. The frothy head has good hang time, settling eventually into a thick ringlet. Smoked fish is what I get in the nose. The same smokiness is evident in the taste. A light body. Not one of my favorite styles

Last of my Schlenkerla Stash. Slightly murky tea brown pour with a tight smallish head and small chunks of lacing. Mildy smoky at first then as it warms more smokiness, with undercurrent of slightly sweet wheat bier. Taste is also gradual smokiness, light at first getting a tad more intense as it warms, with very slight sweetness and weizen qualities. Still an awesome bier from a fantastic brewery.
