Bottle with “bottled on” 5030 whatever that means. Purchased at Beer World of Largo. Pours a clear copper with half inch tan head that lasted a couple of minutes. The aroma has nice even smokiness. Its no eye searing Schlenkerla aroma or some lesser version of the style. It seems right on. Mmmm smoky and woody. The taste has the smokiness outshining the sweet malty backbone. There’s also some mild astringent malt tartness and faint floral hoppiness. Nice flavor to sink my teeth into.

Bottle at home, dark amber beer, small head. Aroma is smoked ham, smoke. Taste is smoke, ham, wood, sweet. not bad, its like walking into an old fashion butchershop.

Medium sized white head, short lived. Hazy copper color. lightly smokey nose, bandaid. Medium body. Smoke flavor is faint. Phenolic, fried electrical wiring. Finish is medium sweet. Reminds me of the time the wiring harness under the dash of my 65 mustang burned up. something about that flavor/aroma i kinda like.

Another fantastic beer from Pfoxyjohn, Wish List item too! Lightly hazy golden pour with a slight white head and very sporadic lacing. Beautiful subtle smoke aroma, a bit of leather with a lightly sweet maltiness and very light hops. Taste is smoky, light sweet malts, awesomeness. HUGE thanks to John for this beer which I thought I'd never try, Very nice indeed!

A milder Smoked beer but still very quaffable and enjoyable .. dark tan, good foam .. . clean, light smoke, nutty, cured meat, ..awesome! .. . as others have mentioned- quite light on smoke but still a great brew! .. . When I'm done, our students will be so smart, they'll be able to program their VCRs without spilling piping hot gravy all over myself.

well, it's good. It just isn't smoky enough for me... i want Rauch in my Rauchbier. Nice and pretty amber color, minimal head with a trace of lace,, pleasant aroma with that hint of smoke, but alas, not much smoke in the taste. It's a good beer, make no mistake. It just isnt Rauchy enough. :) Did I mention that already?

Bottle. Poured a clear deep amber colored beer with a two fingers white foamy head that had a mid-sized retention. Great lacing. Intense carbonation. The aroma is roasted grainy malts, caramelized fruits. The flavour is roasted and smoked malts, dried fruits. The palate is very smooth, maybe a bit too watery. This medium bodied beer has a lingering smokey finish. A easy and very nice drinkable Rauchbier.

Bottle: Poured a clean light brown color ale with a one-inch foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of smoke is not as present as I would have expected. Taste is a mix between a light caramel malt bills with some medium smoke. Average body with some good carbonation. Easily quaffable but not as much character as I would have expected.

Poured from the bottle a golden amber color, slightly hazy, good carbonation, with a full, rich, off-white head. Sweet smoked wood and fruit nose, but light and fresh. Superb mouthfeel, full, round, smooth. Soft but complex flavors of solid malt and smoked wood (I understand its beechwood, but I would've guessed applewood). Finish is long and well-blended. Lightly sweet, faintly smoky, smooth fruit, light bitterness. Excellent. Delicious.
Tasted again vom Faß at the brewery 10/30/08 during Fränken Bierausflug, Day#4, Brewery#20, Beer#44. Light amber with a thin tan head, very similar in appearance to the rauchbock. Aroma is slightly smoked malt; medium-bodied; firm malt with balanced hop bitterness. Long, soft, lightly smoked finish. I would rate this lower than I did the bottled version, no doubt because I had just consumed the wonderful Rauchbock.
