Inspired by Paul Revere's midnight ride, we rebelled against the British style IPA, embraced the more aggressive American version and then recast it in bold, brave, defiant black. Our Black IPA is a Declaration of Independence from the tyranny of the expected. Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich, dark malts, this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth, mellow finish.

The pour is cola colored with a creamy light brown head. Retention and lacing are average. The aroma is pine, roasted malt, and cereal malt. Average mouthfeel. The taste is akin to the aroma with hints of cereal malt, pine, and citrus.

Nice beer for the price. Actually quite enjoyable regardless of price. Aroma is more roasted malt than hops, the flavour is more hops than roasted malt. Decent looker. Medium chalky mouthfeel. Glad I bought 2

Color of translucent coffee with a thin cap that leaves a ring. Grapefruit and caramel aroma, a hint of a toasty Scotch ale. Flavor is like a Scot turned IPA by hops, but with an incredibly clean toasty finish, like toasted sesame seeds and Guinness-esque char. Really enjoyed this. Tiny carbonation leaving lots of lace, sticky and weighty but refreshing.

I tried this beer after hearing so many Washingtonians speak highly about it. Thus, I had to try it. When I first popped the can immediately I smelt some coffee and roast grinds with earthy tones. Upon sipping it I experienced maltiness with a smidgen of hops to it. Although its not like a Turmoil Cascadian Dark Ale, it is drinkable.

In honor of my first weekend of the year in Oregon, I am drinking beer before 9 in the morning. I got a six pack of this stuff canned at the local grocery store. 21st seems to have decent beers, but nothing that stands out in memory. This one is about the same. A solid ABA. Not too hoppy, not too roasted, but doesn't make me want to go out and buy it again. Perhaps my senses are not awake yet.

Canned Black IPA - thin charcoal black pour, tight, light tan head, some lacing. Roasted malt/earthy pine hopped aroma, a touch of cocoa. Flavor follows the nose with a nice roasted malt quality, decent amount of hops offset, some molasses and cocoa, some bitter linger. Nice brew.

21st Amendment produces some pretty decent brew. I was really impressed with this beer. And even more better coming from a can. Brownish black. Clean lightly frothed head. Roasted malts, fruity hops, chocolate, and a bit of coffee. Soft fruity notes.

I guess I was expecting a little something "more"... a decent black IPA - something I've recently starting seeing around. Dark brown to red with a thin tan head. Malty/piney aroma and flavor with a full-bodied - albeit not heavy - texture.

This poured a dark brown color with little head. The aroma contains some caramel, toffee, and chocolate along with some citrus. The flavor is rather bitter with some dark malts. Overall this is ok but I just can’t get into this style is seems.

THis is the revered black IPA I've been hearing about in all it's grace and beauty....except that the beer is neither graceful, or beautiful. The pour is a very dark brown with a small thin brown head. Roasted malt tones dominate the aroma over the hops, but they are definitely there. The flavour is far more hoppy than the aroma with the citrus overpowering the coffee notes. Not well balanced enough for me to like it.
