Unsurprisingly for a beer from the Young’s stable, Double Chocolate Stout has been recognised as an award-winning brew on several occasions, including: Brewing Industry International Awards Gold Medal Winner 2000, Silver Medal Winner 2002 and Bronze Medal Winner 1998 and 2004. Young's Double Chocolate Stout has an intriguing twist. Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young's award winning rich, full flavoured dark beer to craft a satisfyingly indulgent, but never overly sweet experience. Pale ale and crystal malt, chocolate malt, special blend of sugars, Fuggle and Goldings hops, real dark chocolate and chocolate essence.

(500 ml bottle, ABV 5,2%). Black (actually very dark ruby) with a good tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is all chocolate and roasted malts. When you expect something cloyingly sweet (chocolate in beer - "uff da"!): Surprise! - a perfectly rounded and well balanced flavour, loads of chocolate but never sickly, just the right roasted bitterness in the aftertaste. This beer is a real treat - I would be happy to drink it each and every afternoon, but just one bottle a day!

Bottle. Colour – very dark brown, foamy beige head. Aroma – roasted malt, dark fruit, dark chocolate, licorice. Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, slightly thin, well carbonated. Flavour – Very roasty, very chocolatety, some hints of coffee and licorice. A very good beer.

Oh yeah this one is going to be good it's a black brew with a very thick bubbles that fade fast. The aroma is like a 3 Musketeers bar. The mouthfeel is THICK and rich. The flavor is like mixing Nestles Quick with malt.

The words "double chocolate", "pure luxury" "premium dark ale" and prepared with "natural mineral water" caught my taste buds' attention. It was a thirst quenching beer but a little shallow on richness. I may have built up a bigger taste through the label wording which caused my disappointment.

Dark brown (and from where I was standing in this dark pub) almost black with brownish thick foma head lacing to glass. Arome is roasted barley and chocolate. One can taste chocolate, bitter chocolate. Aftertaste is nice bitter, not sweet at all. (Moscow 201209)

Oh wow. Poured a nice thick creamy mocha coloured head. Very good lacing. Extremely dark brown appearance. Has aromas of roasted malts, dark coffee grinds, mints, toffee. Man! Nice assorted flavours, very chocolatey, also some coffee, vanilla, spices, caramel. Very much flavourful. Pretty smooth creamy mouthfeel as well. This is good stuff indeed!! Definitely gonna be picking this up again.

You get the aroma of the chocolate as soon as you open the container. Very creamy head and great tase of the malts and a strong flavor of the chocolate on the back side. An excellent chocolate stout for the price.

I was excited to try this after having success with chocolate beers earlier this year. Black pour with a creamy tan head. Little carbonation and surprisingly thin mouthfeel. Aroma and flavor were a little disappointing--weak notes of dark chocolate and roasted malt. Not as robust as I had hoped for.

Pours a near black color with a creamy tan head billowing above. The head settles to a creamy film, but leaves next to nothing for lacing. The aroma is mildly chocolaty character with semi-sweet dark chocolate and light milk chocolate, but mainly just subtle cocoa. This just doesn't smell all that fantastic to me. The taste does little more to build on the aroma with mild unsweetened dark chocolate, subtle cocoa, and that's about it for chocolaty flavors. It's not rich or creamy or sweet or anything like I expected. The mouthfeel is decent creaminess from the body, but nothing special. Carbonation is ok. Stouts are my least favorate sytle of beer.

Pours great. Looks great. Dark chocolate aroma, yep great. Nice and smooth but I was looking for a little more in the body. Flavours of roasted malt, chocolate of coarse and a nice dry finish.

A very common beer that is highly rated, and extrremely delicious too. Hard to believe sometimes that there is alcohol in this beer. A dark brown beer packed with huge chocolate flavouring. One of my favourites.
