An English style stout made with pale and dark English malts, English noble hops and 150 whole oysters -- shell and all. The oysters are thrown into the brew kettle during the boil stage of the brewing process, adding calcium to the wort. The result is a passionately smooth stout. (Mysteriously, a large number of friends gather in the tasting area of the brewery during the brew.) First Place Winner of 2001 Bloomsday Stout Challenge(beating Guinness and 3 other Irish stouts in a blind taste test!). Available for Fall & Winter consumption on draught and in bottles.

I have been waiting awhile to taste this. Since the time I bought the Yards variety pack, last year, hoping to get a dark beer. Nope wasn’t in there, boy, was I disappointed. I did, however, get a very nice sassion, one of the best I’ve tasted. Nice trade off. Well, anyway, I finally get to taste this love stout. Sounds good! 12 oz brown bottle. Get the opener to pop it for a ubiquitous redolent aroma of beer. From the first smell, you may think its pale yellow. It is not until you pour it into the glass do you smell chocolate and roastyness. Very dark brownish black makes this almost opaque. I think I may be getting an olfactory hint of anise now. No head, just a dark tan girdle around the edge. Very roasty ab ovo de gustibus. Creamy roasty flavors the dance on your tastebuds. Very very nice indeed. As far as the taste of this stout goes, this is on par with bells kalamazoo. Very mellow burned malt interests. Carbonation is bucolic, low creamyness on the back of your tongue and throat, lo medium. I hope this isn’t just tasting good cause I had a good day! I detect some wet burned wood in there coming on. As a pure stout, this may be better than east end black strap, but it is because black strap should be an imp stout style. Black strap has more impressive bitterness to the palate. I do not feel any medicine like qualities in the finish, smooth and endearing. One of the better pure stouts I have tasted. Better than lags cappuccinos and saranacs B&T. This is good enough to be classified as a sweet stout.

Black, but light comes in easily at the edges. The light tan head is slightly sandy and fades to a thin, lacey film. The aroma is charcoal and walnuts. The acidic roastiness comes across a little harsh. The flavor explodes with the acidic burnt malt almost covering up a bit of dark chocolate. A not-quite nuttiness follows up with a light, lingering bitterness finishing it off. The body is a bit too thin. Beef up the body of this stout and you’d have an excellent stout.

Yards Love Stout poured a deep black colored body with some brown hues around the edges. It had a medium tan head that left some lacing. The taste was very smooth with coffee and chocolate flavoring throughout. This is one of Yards best offering.

SLOW POUR required. Even the head has a head. Thank goodness there was a sink nearby, it was like a volcano erupted. Now the head has finally mellowed (10 mins). Aromas of dark coffee and chocolate. Color is as dark as a stout should be. Taste is of...tin? According to the label the batch is made with oysters - not sure if that is what is causing this, but it is not mellow as described by the brewery. It's OK, but I will have a difficult time gagging down six of these.

Two words describe this bottle conditioned stout. Coffee and hops! Yards of Philly has earned my respect in the past, and this one increases that respect. Large foamy tan head sits on top of the black hue that displays a very slight hint of brown when held up to a light. Scents of coffee and toasty dark malts abound with this one. The tasty burnt espresso like java notes are assertive and smooth, with a dry hop finish that is noticeable but not over blown like with a lot of micros. This one gets 5 stars, even though oyster flavors were nowhere to be found. I think I am in love!

Very nice roasty stout. Dark in color with a nice head. Really enjoyable beer. Its a little sweet. More like a porter than a stout. Good.

My first from the yards, kinda weird tastin, but then again i think all the west coast stout has fucked with my perception. I didn't taste any oysters and I'm damn glad for that. It kinda gave me a power porter feel, good and roasty.

Pours a dark brown with big popping bubbles. Aroma was sweet coffee and bitter chocolate. I didn’t taste any oysters in this but it was smooth with a clean dry finish.

Not a good tasting beer of this style. It has a slightly sweet taste that did not sit well. It is not something you would want to go out of your way for.
