A rich dark ale, dominated by the strong flavours of blended roast malts that are the foundation of this beer. Smooth coffee and chocolate undertones are complemented by the addition of late harvest cone hops, giving a lovely blackcurrant aroma.

Pours out in a dark brown colour with a small beige foam. Roasted malts, black currant and anise in the aroma. Light-bodied with notes of anise, plums and roasted malts. Roasty and papery finish with a rather low bitterness.

500 ml bottle, bought in Edinburgh. ABV is 4.2%. Very dark reddish brown colour, nearly black. Large and lasting tan head. Very nice aroma of roast malts, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of blackcurrants and liquorice. The flavour is first fairly fruity and slightly acidic, then a moderate roastiness and pronounced coffee notes take over. Moderate hops and chocolate in the finish. Relatively light bodied for its style, but definitely an enjoyable beer.

Very dark amber colour, quite close to black. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, blackcurrant along with some smoke and licorace. Just lovely. Flavour is at first very licoracy and some blackcurrant and some coffee but turns more and more roasted towards the finish. The roastiness and coffee stays for a while in a pleasant aftertaste. Really pleasant for a 4.2% brew.

Bottle. Nearly black with a slim tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, malts, liquorice and dark fruits. Tastes of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate; some acidity and a sweet slightly hoppy finish. Medium bodied, quite carbonated. A more than decent porter.
