1996 was the year, Brown Ale was the beer. Back when Wild Rose Brewery was merely a barley-based dream, the idea of this original Brown Ale was born. Now recognized as a modern day classic, this beer successfully pays homage to the time-honoured British beer styles of the past. Starting as a craft operation with just a couple of tanks in the back, Wild Rose Brewery has evolved to become one of Alberta's fastest growing and best-loved microbreweries. For this we have people like you to thank. Cheers! Dark brown and ruby hued, this ale expresses notes of espresso and chocolate. Very approachable, Wild Rose Brown Ale is mildly hopped with a medium body and a clean finish. Don't be afraid of the dark.Get down with the Brown.

THis was presented to me as a premium beer and it was anything but. A very weak brown ale at best. A murky brown pour with very little head. Aromas of nuts and sweet malt were backed up by a little caramel. The flavour was slightly sour and acidic with only the malt coming though.

Just not a brown fan, but this is sweet, and carby, and bloating, but a bitter aftertaste that makes me wonder why i drink it. Many have reviews of easy drinking, perhaps my taste has just so gone off brown that I dont like it. There is hops, and paint thinner type skunkyness too it. That said, its not horrible for a brown, not to sweet, so I wont complain vehemntly and ill give it sixes.

Beer pours a pretty dark brown but produced zero head just some extremely small bubbles where floating in random locations on the top of the brew, this beer is pretty boring looking. The aroma was surprisingly complex, wet smoked wood, dark cherries, and even some dark chocolate, but even with all that the aroma was rather week and nothing that got me excited. A bitter mild coffee flavor is the first thing I notice, and some very week chocolate and roasted malts. This beer is very strange it’s almost like a very weak flavored porter, the mouth feel was very light and thin feeling. Beer was drinkable but nothing I’ll ever crave are buy again on my own.

Brown Ale. I'd hope the intension was to model this after American Brown Ales, not English ones. If American, then they are on the right track. Got that tiny brewery taste - the one where all the beers have the same taste. Appearance is a hint to your beer right off the bat - poured near zero head that vanished before I got into the basement to review it. Decent clear brown though. Looks really flat. Aroma comes out after warming - why is this smoked? That makes no sense at all. Everything else is malts and nailpolish. Actually, there are hops too. Taste is decent enough - something roasted, fake mini-brewery sweetness that is so common, bread, harsh caramel. Comes across too smooth (not quite Sunny-D, but going there), nearly flat but some carbs save it, dry and super mild bitter aftertaste. Could be better, could be worse. Do not proceed this up with something like Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale which I've been told God actually brewed.

pours a dark brown with a off white colored head that lasted a lil while... ok lacing nothing fancy. the smell of coffee (faint) and smokie malts. the taste is malty with a hoppy flavor... there is diffently hops i can taste them but very little bitterness... which is strange!! mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied... its enjoyable... i'll give it that... but theres nothing special about it...

Saved this bottle from my Calgary trip it was bottled the day I bought it at the brewery and was about 2 weeks old when I cracked it...still nice and fresh but I assume this beer does not last long on the shelf. Poured a clear, deep chestnut color with a nice toffee colored frothy cap that laced our quickly. Delicate aromas of grassy hops caramel, walnuts and spices....very nice! Starts with a big whack of bitter-sweet nutty malts some evidence of spicy tang then the finish is mellow and light with a buttery after taste. Das smachts gut! The good offering from this brewer and arguably Calgary’s best drinking micro ale.

On tap at a number of restaurants/bars around Calgary. Serving arrived with small head and left just a small ring of bubbles on around edge of glass. Still some carbonation so it wasn't flat, and nice transparent brown color. Slight coffee smell with smoky, burnt caramel. Tastes smooth with malty sweetness and not a lot of hoppiness, like the slightly smokey flavor and aroma. Overall, thought it is well balanced and flavorfull but not overpowering.
