Not a bad beer, but not a great beer. A reddish coloured beer with a white head. There was a hint of honey in the mainly malty aroma. There was also a hint of maple in the taste. Neither the aroma or the taste are predominantly maple.

The unique characteristic of this brew is supposed to the addition of Maple syrup to the recipe. It comes through in the aroma but not in the taste to any appreciable degree.....and I'm not so sure that's a bad thing seeing how strong a taste Maple syrup can provide to a beer if a brewer gets over ambitious with it. Northern Red maple is about as well proportioned as you can get in this flavored beer variety but this UC maple comes no where close to that. This brew poured a crystal clear medium tawney brown with a medium head that went down fast to a glass clinging lace. Higher carbonation than other UCB ales. Distinct maple aromas ...sweet caramel malts, slight waft of hop but the overpowering aroma is of maple (and slightly smokey at that). Starts with a watery sweet malt taste and then the let down...no detectable maple flavor transfers to the tongue....except what your ofactory picks up...and a sourish yeasty finish. I'm not nuts about this one but some may like it. I don't think it is brewed to be a staple in anyone's fridge, but it will do for a one time change for change sake.

One thing for certain the beer has a beautiful appearence. It's colour is almost orange with a brown overdub, very lovely. The rest unfortunately not so much... Hardly any real flavour, but not to say what little taste was bad. I found it a quenching beer. In fact, I was unsure whether to consider this beer a new session beer (it is as good or perhaps better than the other "all-season, every day" kinda brews) but at the same time couldn't help but feel the beer was on the same level as most value brands. For one, its title is misleading; wasn't much of a brown ale and maple flavour was absent. It's aroma was far from pleasent and rather distasteful. Like other Upper Canada products this one somehow leaves you with an impression that its close to something real good. As for now though - it isn't really...I understand that's what happen to the company and their products after being bought out by Sleemans. Well, a little disapointing...

Pours a golden-brown color with a nice foamy head and quite a bit of lacing on the glass. The overall look was quite appealing. A lot of maple syrup in the aroma along with some malts. Didn't really taste like a Brown Ale. Some sweet malt, little spice, but not nearly as much maple in the flavor as expected and overall this seems a little weak.

Poured a beautiful amber colour with a foamy white head and slight lace. Aromas were sweet and malty. The taste was nutty with medium sweetness and mild sourness. Good drinkability, but not much maple in the taste, just in the nose. The maple shows up when the beer warms up a bit, so don't drink too cold.

Nice color, slight head, mine had nice carbonation, the maple syrup was hinted to in the aroma, and it seemed a minute or two after you took a drink, that there was a lingering after taste of maple. All in all not a bad beer. Would make a good utility beer for me for anytime refreshment.

reddish in colour, fine head, slightly fruity aroma, quite flat - where did they put the maple syrup ?
