Beerpal Review #100. The beer was dark brown with a smallish white head. The aroma was a combination of malt and spice, possibly cloves. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with some mild carbonation. The flavour was smooth and spicy with some malty hints.

Murky brown coloured pour, foamy head with great retention. Sweet, fruity and spicy aroma. Flavour is sweet with dark fruit, grape, banana, spice and typical Unibroue yeast. well carbonated, medium mouthfeel.

Aroma is rich, malty and spicy with a hint of yeast, quite inviting. It pours a clear dark amber, almost mahogany, with a thick pale orangy head. Rich flavor is malty, yeasty, spicy and slightly hoppy. Texture is fairly smooth, lively and fizzy, quite satisfying.

Pours out a dark ice tea color with no head. The aroma is of yeast and malt. The mouthfeel is pretty solid. The taste is of honey, wheat , malt and figs. I have had a couple of the beers from this brewery and they are the best I've ever had from Canada. This sucker is full of spices !

Pours a hazy amber with a 2 finger off white head that seems to last a bit. Carbonation is out of this world. Aroma is quite strong with hints of fruits, cloves and yeast. Slight pepper smell to it as well. Taste is fairly strong with hints of fruits, Belgian yeast, pepper, and some cloves. Ever slight metallic hint to it that stays for a bit that does not seem at all overwhelming. Aftertaste is slightly metallic at first but then turns into a clove and apple cider mix. Slight booze burn but it hide it very well. Excellent beer.

Poured an average size foamy, bubbly head and has a dark hazy amber colour. Thin layer of head sticks around till the end. Has the usual yeasty Unibroue aromas, very much citrusy. Flavours of darker malts and hops. Very tarty. Dry fruits. Hint of caramel. Not as strong as expected, and pretty smooth for a higher abv brew. But then almost to be expected coming from Unibroue. Great tasting, smooth and strong beer. Good stuff.

Pours a very dark brown amber and super hazy as well. A large off-white colored head as well. The aroma is bitter like a lot of grassy hops and other herbal notes. A caramel candy sweetness. Spices. The taste is big fruity bitterness up front. A bit of sharp citrus and a little bit of darker fruits like figs and plums. A smooth bit of caramel in there. A strange blend of spices and pepper. Complex and blends well but no big stand out flavors. It has a high carbonation but it works well for this beer and it goes down easy for an 8% beer.

If im in the mood for a Unibrouw this is often the one I pick up. Strong strong unibroue yeast, almost too strong which is what puts me off unibroue sometimes, at the same time as making me say, why have I never aged one of these? Medium brown with some red, sweet malts on the nose, carmel and belgian spices, including anise. Some light orange that seems like its emanating from the malts, but thats mostly impossible I think (or is it?). Maybe a bit of rotten peach, full bodied, wintery but certainly not christmasy. Some more spice. More yeast. Honey I guess... its really good, and I drink it regualarily, but as I write this review I am getting sick of the yeast... would have given much higher numbers 200 beer reviews ago, but o well, well I guess I cant lover the numbers because I drank to much of it...

A dark amber, dark copper color. A bountiful head with excellent size, very nice retention and real, real nice lacing. The head was barely off white and settled to a nice skim on top. Looks really nice. A pretty strong hint of booze comes through on the nose. The smell is similar to a wine only a bit more laid back. Some sweetness of grape, flowers and some sweet malt. It smells very sweet. The flavor again, provides a strong hint of booze with some bitterness accompanied by a dry grape. A welcome sweetness distracts me from the heavy booze and alcohol warmth, but the more I sipped, the sweetness became almost overbearing to me. Medium/full mouthfeel. Very dry. Coats the palate very well and provides a lavish amount fo alcohol warmth. This beer is an ok beer for me. It looks fabulous however, the alcohol is a bit strong for me in the areas of aroma and taste. I don't much care for an over abundance in my beer. I wouldn't be able to have more than one or two of these at a time.

I hate to say this, but the first thing I thought of when I tasted this was "Blue Moon". Not in a bad way, but MUCH better than Blue Moon...just reminded me of that citrusy Belgian-style that so many domestic brewers are shooting for. This is how it should be though! Flavors are full but in a balanced way. Nice and hoppy too. Appearance is more in the medium brown side, cloudy but not quite thick and murky. Something like this straight from Belgium would probably be in the $4-6 range, so figure I'm getting the North American discount. Go Unibroue GO!! Keep brewing and I'll keep sampling.
