Bottled 11/09/09. Dark, oily pour with very little head but some lacing. Rye and whiskey dominate the aroma with hints of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Silky smooth mouthfeel with little carbonation. Flavor mirrors the aroma with the rye showing through along with notes of molasses and roasted malts and a bit of alcohol. Well done; everything seems to meld together nicely. Would have been nice to do a side-by-side with a newer bottle to see how things changed with a few years of age.

Been able to score this 2-years in a row now thanks to my Dark Lord Day adventures. Heavy pour that looks wonderful in a nice glass. Calm influences of chocolate, big roasted malt, spicy rye and vanilla. Hearty and fairly bold with a luscious mouthfeel. Extremely nice offering.

Dark caramel brown with smells of whiskey and rye. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth with flavors of coffee and chocolate and smoke. A little hint of oak throughout, very very good beer.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade. Pours a dark brown with reddish edges. Head was two-finger which settled to a coating lasting throughout. Taste was coffee, vanilla, chocolate, some coconut but with a boozy rye whiskey overcoming in the end. Mouthfeel was robust and full-bodied. A fair amount of carbonation was observed and felt. This was a very good porter and it’s sad it was a one-time offering. If you can still get it, try it!

aroma and flavor of coffee, malts, molasses, rye and whiskey. the 40/60 barrel/ale blend is spot on. enough to make it super smooth and tasty but not over the top with the barreling. the porter part is done well...i'd have loooved to try a non-barreled version alongside this, but this beer was great. thanks John!

Bottle from brewblackhole. Dark brown pour. A thin head struggles to develop then fades away. Roasty oats, chocolate, mild coffee, a little bit of rye, light barrel notes, and some toasty bitterness. Nothing really stands out with this beer, perhaps chocolate if I had to pick something. Tastes like it’s been aged in a barrel but not nearly as much rye or whiskey, which I don’t really even pick up, as I was expecting. I love the fact that it’s not overdone with the barrel-aging flavors but they are still there to bring it all together. A really good beer

Pours dark brown with some reddish highlights. Not much of a head. The nose is dominated by the whiskey with some roasted malt. Notes of chocolate, molasses, vanilla and cinnamon (weird, but interesting) are also present. Smooth and creamy (like an imperial stout) and unlike the aroma, has more chocolate goodness than whiskey on the palette. The roasted malt is the foundation of this brew, but allows all of the flavors to compliment one another. This brew is incredibly balanced, as the whiskey is not overpowering, probably due to the blending (40% of this imperial porter is aged in rye whiskey barrels), which I was initially skeptical of. But Tyranena has created an imperial porter that should please imperial porter and barrel aged fans alike.

Another one from pfoxyjohn. Ruby black pour with minimal head and little lacing. Toasted malts, molasses, burnt brown sugar, slight rye and whiskey in aroma. Taste is SMOOOOOTH with a toasted sweet maltness with molasses, whiskey and rye, then a slight dry bitter finish. Big yeah - thanks John!

Thanks for another great beer John! Poured from a bottle and at first sight, it looks like an Impy Stout. Very dark with a tan head that diappeared quickly. The aroma has a strong roasted malt flavor with a wiff of alcohol at the very end. The taste was very nice with roasted malts with just hint of some oak aging. Very solid beer.
