Really had a good aroma of cherry when poured. The licorice flavor is slight. And the mouthfeel is good and thick. The appearance was black but light can be seen through it. And it poured a massive foamy brown head. Really enjoyed this one.

Served in a goblet at WOB. Slick blackness in color with a dark sudsy textured, brown head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. A thick ringlet is left. Roasted nose. Burnt profile in tasting. Oak, licorice and espresso. Thick, slick body. I really enjoyed this one.

Pitch black color with a huge dark tan head. Can’t beat the appearance. The aroma is intense with chocolate, licorice, espresso, and alcohol. The flavor punches you in your face with some dark chocolate, licorice, alcohol, and coffee. The aftertaste is boozy and bitter with just a bit of malt showing up. Overall good in small amounts.

lots of BIG flavors and scents going on here, especially roast, licorice, coffee, chocolate, (slight)vanilla...and a surprisingly mellow barrel aspect for a beer of such strength. got this on sale and am glad I did. Really nice and one i'll likely revisit without any other beers before or after. nice feel, smooth and full, not cloying, and while strong, hides the abv quite well.

Pours a deep, rich, warm, chocolaty sable with a fairly thick tan head. Smoky, slightly salty aroma has notes of molasses and chocolate and a hint of caramel. Rich flavor fills the mouth with molasses, semi-sweet chocolate and caramel with hints of toffee and coffee and a subtle smoky overtone. Smooth, firm texture has a respectable amount of fizz. Fortunately, you shoudn't have to go through a labyrinth to find this one, but it would be worth the trip.

Pours out in an almost black appearance with a small sticky pale brown head. Big fat aroma of wood, vanilla, nuts, tobacco and prunes. Full-bodied with rich chewy notes of wet tobacco, blackberries, wood and blueberries with hints of vanilla and peppery alcohol. Chewy, almost sticky body. Long chewy finish of prunes, blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, fusge, tobacco and wood. Darn tasty!

I'm not a huge licorice fan. Having said that, this pours solid black with a thin tan head and decent lacing. The licorice flavor is not overwhelming. Described as a black ale, this definitely seems to be an Imperial stout variant. Very nice, very smooth, very enjoyable.
