The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Black. Thin ring around the glass for a head, no lacing. Subdued but pleasant aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Mouthfeel is almost edible. Flavour as usual with Evil Twin Impy stouts is full and decadent. Has a slight burnt flavour with loads of dark fruits, coffee, dark and milk chocolate, vanilla, almonds. Sweet with a touch of bitter. Bloody yum, although it is so rich it would be hard to drink two.

Pours out 100% pitch black with just a lacing of a head. The aroma is cool I've never smelled almond in a beer before. That and I can smell vanilla and alchol. The mouthfeel is creamy and thick. The taste is very complex and mixed with chocolate, almond, coffee and vanilla. High ABV is covered well by the flavor blend. This one gets better as it warms up.

Be careful when you open the bottle - the sample I got fizzed like nobody’s business! Strong aroma has a firm and mouth-watering overtone of quality coffee with hints of unsweet chocolate and molasses. It pours a rich opaque sable just a flea’s eyebrow above black. Flavor is just simply sublime - quality coffee, roast malt, licorice, hints of molasses and chocolate. Could it get any better? Full, smooth texture has a good fizz to it and leaves a finish rich in roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and licorice.

    On tap @ 10 East -

Aroma - almond cookies, deep chocolate layers, vanilla, roasted coffee beans, soy sauce and alcohol

Appearance - pitch black body, 2-finger creamy dark tan head, medium retention, light lacing

Mouthfeel - full bodied, light/medium carbonation, smooth and creamy

Flavor - roasted coffee, dense burnt chocolate, walnutty bitterness, vanilla, anise, and molasses

Overall - a top notch stout/porter if there is one. Complex, full of layered flavors and aromas. A no brainer beer if there is one. If you see it, get it.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium creamy brown head that slowly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate with some roast, flowers and some tart fruit.

The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some roast coffee, vanilla, fruit and a fairly bitter finish. The alcohol is warming but not overbearing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, it's OK. Too sweet and alcoholic for me. The floral fruitiness didn't mesh well with the roast chocolate to me.

Another stellar KnoxBeerCrew offering. Black pour, tight tan head, copious amounts of lacing. Huge nearly-burnt malt nose, dark chocolates, roasted coffee beans, nearly burnt toasted bread, very earthy. The taste mimics the nose with a hugely roasted everything quality, it is very rich and heavy; cocoa, coffee, dark bread, just all well toasted. Super nice beer.

Yet ANOTHER awesomely decadent big dark brew from evil twin. This one has equal parts coffee and roasted black and chocolate malts in the aroma and flavor, with a bitter backbone, and a good dose of chocolate, vanilla, and almonds in there as well. It's like a really good imperial stout with amaretto, dipped in espresso. Huge body, heavy, but not sticky, cloying, or overly sweet. Absolutely delicious!
