A heavy mouthful from one of Denmark's few independent regional breweries, which I'm always happy to support every summer. A nice region with nice people who make several acceptable beers - this is their very best one. However, I have to admit that Gl. Carlsberg Imperial Stout Porter is slightly better. RERATE: Characterized as a 'double brown stout' by the brewery, this stout / (Baltic) porter (in Denmark that's more or less the same thing) is really so different from Gl. Carlsberg Imperial Stout Porter (now called Carls Porter) that it's a bit unfair to compare the two. The smoked flavour of the Limfjordsporter is really something out of the ordinary. I've never had a rauchbier (*I have now!), but I guess this one has some elements in common with that style (* i.e. it's smoky, but not smoked meat like the Aecht Schlenkerla, thank God). I highly recommend a sample of Limfjords-Porter! RERATE 2: Hey, this beer grows on you! Black (okay, extremely dark brown) as the deadliest of sins, moderate thick tan head, aroma and flavour of tar, resin and midsummer bonfires. Overwhelming smoked bitterness. Tastes like it's been stored in a Viking ship through seven battles and a round-the-world tour. Simply outstanding.

Rated in May, 2009. Pours dark brown with amber hues and full cratered surface of the moon dark mocha texture. The aroma is moderately rauchy with bits of smoke, campfire char, bacon and a dash of band aid. In the background behind the smoke I get roasted malt notes and dark fruitiness. The taste begins a bit roasty to go along with a layer of dark fruitiness like dark grape jam and ripe plum. Toward midway an assertive rauch-ness surfaces bringing with it notes of smoke, charred wood embers and a touch of band aid to go along with spice and black licorice. The smoky notes and sweet dark fruitiness take this into the finish with little to no roast or char. It is rauchier than I expected. I feel compelled to type, “yum.”

I had this beer at Mikkeller San Francisco. This beer was OUTSTANDING - of all the amazing beers available there, this may have been the winner for me. Exceptional beer - smooth and smokey, licorice notes - World Class beer!

Dark brown with big brown foam head, lacing. Aroma is bitter coffee, some liquorish. Taste is great, bitter coffee, nothing sweet noticeable. A great beer. (Velp 201309)

Black opaque colour with meadiumsized brown head, which disappears quite fast. Roasted malt, licorace and toffee in aroma. Strong licorace and roasted malt in flavour along with strong black coffee. Wellbalanced and pleasant!

Thanks to my friend Nath for this beer. It pours black with a light brown head. The head is quite long lasting. The flavor is sweet and refreshing, with a medium bodied.

It pours a very black colour, fine brown tainted head, very complex nose, roasted, aroma of chocolate and coffee, butter and nuts, thick and oily, strong bitterness with a long very dry coffeish finish - a beautiful beer !

Pours opaque black with a tan head and spotty lacing on the glass. Roasted coffee and fudge chocolate, dry aroma. Oak and coffee, light chocolate, medium mouthfeel.
