I had this beer at Café t'Arendsnest in Amsterdam (bottled - is it available on tap at all??). Cloudy brown colour, strong and powerful, warming mouthfeel. Flavourful, yeasty, heavy carbonation. It is not a bad brew, but I find the yeast flavour too dominant to give it a definite top rating.

Bottle (from Cracked kettle). Hazy opaque reddish brown colour, big beige foamy head, good lace. Aroma is yeast, some fruits, bready malts as well as some sweet malts and spices. Flavour is mild roast, raisins, leathery notes, yeast, spices, herbs and also quite much fruits and licorice. Hides the alcohol very well. Nice yeasty and licoriceish aftertaste.

(IJnde Jaars) well rounded also interesting beer.... pours brisk and bubbly, a shade of dark orange. A soapy aroma, scent of peaches and whisky.... tingly, fine bubbles. Syrupy oranges, and a bitter waxy sensation. Toasted grass in an Attic, and hints of tart rasopberry... Still oddly soapy/ floral potpourri (maybe all that yeast) but gets better towards the end and takes its head out of the sand

Dark amber with a huge white foam. Big estery and sweaty aroma of over-riped bananas, pears and menthol with notes of wet grass, juniper and spicy yeast. Sweaty yeast profile that provides accents of nutmeg, spices, banana, dried oranges and almonds. Full, yeasty, wild and wacky mouthfeel. Long estery finish of bamams, sweet licorice, dried oranges and yeast. A crazy little brew.

Poured a hazy orange amber color, with a large, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of light brett, farmhouse, apples, green grapes, and citrus fruits. Taste of light caramel, coriander, tangerine, other tropical fruits, toffee, light green apple, with some earthy yeast, and a touch of alcohol as well.

This was a very unusual beer and one that I really enjoyed and will probably be buying again. The body is a cloudy amber with an ok head. The aroma is heavily fruity and floral. There’s grapefruit flesh minus the bitterness or sourness. Supporting that are sweet, fresh grapes like scuppernongs. A spicy, floral perfume mingles with the cookie dough base of the aroma. It’s just an awesome Belgian strong.

Had fresh on tap at the tiny brewpub in Amsterdam: Pours a quite dark colour. aroma of choc tar and slight slight port. Taste is quite powerful and delicous yet defined and crisp. goes down smooth and doesn't have a kick with that 9%. a great brew.

The more that I'm exposed to the Brouwerij 't IJ, the more impressed I become. Who says that the Belgians have something of a monopoly on making great beer in The Low Countries?
This poured a bit on the turgid side of things, without much in the way of foam production or head retention. Only so-so- lacing, too.
But what this beer lacked in apearence, it more than made up for it where it truly counts, in my book. That is to say, this beer's aroma and flavor profile were really quit nice. Complex in the nose, and even more so in the mouth. Both weighty and transparent in the mouthfeel, allowing the beer to do it's magic, but not over-staying it's welcome, either. And while it is in on your taste buds, the fruity/grainy profile makes for an enjoyable drink, me'thinks.
Hard to say why this would be considered to be something of a holiday beer, since it's surely worthy of a more well-rounded year-round release, IMO. But until (if?) this becomes more common, it's surely worth checking out. Recommended.

clear amber-brown colour, little foam, hazelnut in the nose, earthy, notes of caramel, sweet and full-bodied, notes of alcohol, long malty and nutty finish with a warming alcohol touch - lot of character
