Aroma is not strong but pleasantly malty. From the bottle it pours a lovely dark brownish gold with a nice thick head. Flavor is richly malty and has a smoky undertone. Smooth and easy to drink, it has no bitterness in the flavor or aftertaste. A pleasantly drinkable ale.

No depth or character to this ESB. Biscuits and caramel with very little hop presence. A touch of cardboard seals the deal on this boring bitter. Good looking pour. Faint aroma, flavor shows itself finally after it has warmed considerably. Not terrible, just no substance for a typically wonderful style by a good brewery.

Pours a clear amber colour with plenty of carbonation. Aroma is mildly hoppy. Floral and citrusy. Soft caramel malt, yet full on the palate. Fruity and slightly biscuity with a decent amount of hops in the finish. Nice beer!

Pours an amber-copper with almost no head. Aroma is faint with some biscuity caramel (perhaps I should have tried this a month ago when I got it instead). Taste starts malty sweet but finishes with an earthy bitterness. Just average for me--not one I would look for again.

This wasn't one of my favorites from Stoudts, but I am not the biggest fans of extra bitters. The hops are the main theme going on, with of course, an extra bitter aftertaste. It is still a smooth, crisp beer....on the lighter side overall. Dark orange-light copper color. Better than average, but pretty much an across the board 7.

The Scarlet lady has a cherry red body. And her head is weak, settling into a thin lacing. The mouthfeel is full of carbonation that tickles the senses. The aroma is a complex mixture of biscuits caramel and a fair amount of bittering/floral hops. Her taste is strong, with a nice complement of alcohol, malt and hops.

This seems like a pretty weak ESB. Color is light brown, maybe some orange in there. Not much head or lacing. Sweet fruity aroma such as oranges or mango. This is an easy drinking beer with pretty good balance but it just seems a little bland. There's a fruity malt note with some faint bitter hops and a pretty clean finish but the whole thing just seems watered down a little. Overall it's OK but it's not a very good ESB.

Beer pours a chestnut brown color with beauty head and a little lacing. No aroma at all. None. Flavor was bready malty with a touch of caramel sweetness and a slight bitterness. Not a bad ESB...but a tad boring.

On tap at Hard Times Café, Woodbridge. Copper color, lighter than expected. Decent, unremarkable head. Faintly bitter aroma. Can pick up malt flavors in the taste, but not enough to distinguish the Marris Otter malt touted on the brewer's description. The body is quite thin for the style. Finishes easy, no lingering bitterness. Drinkable, but not a good example of the style. Fuller's ESB remains the standard.

Well, if you could give extra poits for being average, then this would rank really high. An aroma of sweet malts, subtle hops, and caramel. Flavors were malts, small hops with a slight carbonation being present. Not bad.
