Deep clear ruby amber pour with a near perfect head and substantial lacing. Earthy aroma of subdued malts, tinge of peat and smoke, more malts, light sweet tea-like presence. Flavor is lightly malted sweet, earthy hops, but little of that, very, very drinkable. Love the history behind the namesake of this beer. Recommended to me by a long-time friend; glad he did. Good stuff.

This is one great tasting beer, and the bottle I had was 8 momths old! This beer pours a very dark cherry red colour with a thin tan head. Lots of floral hops and caramel in the aroma. Flavour is nicely balanced to perfection. The hops provide a nice bitter finish without being completely overpowering.

It pours a very dark brown with hints of orange and red and has a thin light-tan head and excellent lace. Spicy aroma of caramel malts, hops, black cherry, citrus, raisins, and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, and rich. Flavors of caramel/chocolate malt, light molasses, hops, limes/citrus, raisin, and light black cherry. Leave it to the Scots ... excellent!!!

Bottled@Poirotti's Skotoberfest 2007. Very much ruby red colour with a beigeish mediumsized creamy head. Aroma is sweet malts along with some flowery hops and grass. Flavour is grassy hops along with some wood and slight nectary notes for the sweetness. A very mouthdrying beer.

Picked up a bottle at Wegmans in Princeton for a beverage to accompany some delectable victuales. Named after Sir James Douglas, friend of Scottsman Robert the Bruce. Sir Douglas is said to have carried the Bruce's heart with him into battle during the Crusades. Pours clear, garnet-tinged brown under a rich, dense foam. Aroma is faintly fruity over a base reminicent of sour mash. Taste is faintly smokey and powerful. Full bodied. Mouthfeel is tingly at first, but quickly softens on the palate. Complex and full of character, Black Douglas is a noble brew.

This ESB pours a deep copper red color from a 500 ml bottle. Large sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty, nutty, earthy and sweet. A medium bodied ESB/bitter. Malts are caramel. nutty and sweet. Hops are herbal and earthy. Lively carbonation. Nice balance. Kind of a cross between a scotch ale and an ESB. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Best before Nov. of '07, enjoyable ale but I got a bit of a metallic hint in the aroma and flavor. Dark ruby pour nice frothy light tan head, moderate lacing. Rich malty aroma, a touch of sweet and bitter then that metallic effect. Rich and full this has a nice creamy feel to it. Flavor is nice and heavy on the malt. A slight hint of sweet fruits backed by a real nice hop bitterness. A touch of smoke and dark malt in the end. Pretty wide spectrum in the flavor, this is good but for the cash I'll most likely look elsewhere.

I couldnt see how this was an ESB. It was too smooth. Excellent dark ruby in color with excellent lacing and a fairly good head. Lots of malt and fruit with a nice, smooth finish. When I bought it I took it for a Scottish Ale and it seemed that. Very heavy, couldnt drink more than the one I had. An outstanding beer! Now I have to go look for more from Broughton Brewery.

This beer gets tremendous marks from me. This beer was really heavy and the head was HUGE. On top of that, this beer was creamy and tasted like a chocolate milkshake. This beer was really good. I recommend this beer to everyone. Thanks for sharing mdsmith!

I really enjoyed this beer. To me it tasted alot like a stout, but I'm by no means a stout drinker. The color and head of this beer make it very appealing. There was a little bit of a chocolate taste to it. and it was very smooth. Overasll a really good beer
