Large light brown head that dies quickly. Hazy brown with a red hue. Malty somewhat buttery nose that was originally sour, as it warmed it made for some pleasent changes. Medium body, good mouthfeel, creamy texture. Good malt flavor, Fruity, yeasty , spiceyness all work well together. This beer definately changed alot as it warmed up. Seemed almost infected at first then as it warmed the aromas righted themselves and the mouthfeel ended up being smoother. Good beer.

A deep reddish-brown pour with a head that lasts. Aroma has strong notes of yeast, dark malt, plums, and sugar. Flavour is well balanced between the sweetness of the malt and fruit tones and the bitter finish. Nothing overpowering at all.

A smooth, drinkable ale. A clear deep mahogany body holds up a robust spongy and creamy tannish head that holds up very well. A healthy, robust aroma of dark fruits like cherries and raisins. The taste is all of the complexity you’d expect from an Abbey Ale, yeasty, sweet, sour, dry and fruity. Another American brewery making a successful venture into Belgium’s own.

I liked the ruby red appearance of this one and it was also one of the few from this line that had a decent head. There was a faintly fruity aroma going on with this one. The taste, however, was not enjoyable at all. It was extremely bitter.

Poured a lightly hazy, ruby red color with a small, light tan head that left veryl ight lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, cherry, light roast, vanilla, yeast and light alcohol. Taste of nuts, vanilla, light roast, toasted dough, dried fruits, caramel malt, some yeast and medium alcohol as well.

12.09.04 750ml bottle. Prune juice brown pour with moderate tan head of fine bubbles. Aromas are fruitcake, plum, vanilla and chocolate, deep and winey. Flavors follow suit with uncomplex tawny port notes and plenty of raisin, chocolate, light nuttiness. Good stuff with nice balance, not too sweet.

Pours a dark ruby brown with a good head that lasts awhile. A little bit of melon in the nose, but not a whole lot else other than a slight bit of almost chocolate malt. The flavor is nicely complex, although there’s an unusual tartness involved that I’m not sure I like or not. It does improve as it warms, but the tartness doesn’t go anywhere.

Nice, I finally got a sample from a non-infected bottle. This abbey dubbel pours a medium brown color, somewhat cloudy. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and a touch of cocoa. A medium bodied dubbel. Malts are fruity and sweet, caramel, dates, and brown sugar. Lots of sweet malt flavors all over the place in this beer. Nice smooth taste. Very easy drinking dubbel. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. ---------------------------------- Medium brown color. Medium head. Aroma is malty. WARNING: Very strong lactic sourness. Possibly infected bottle. Has the character of a sour ale, and I don’t think it intentional. Will need to re-rate.

Bottle. 7/18/02. Red cloudy in color with a nice tan head. Wood, and cardboard aroma and mixed dry fruit. It was aged in the bottle supposedly. I didn’t taste the aging. lots of alcohol burn. Too harsh for me. Flavors are falling apart.

Bottle. Dary red color with a small but dense head. Huge aroma of dried fruits, banana, chocolate and alcohol. Taste is like red wine, candy sugar, tart and spicy. Lively mouthfeel.
