Espresso appearance. Pours with an off-white head. Toasty, roasted malt aromas follow through on a medium-bodied palate with moderate carbonation and a bitter hoppy finish. A notably bitter and hoppy style. WORLD BEER CHAMPIONSHIPS AWARD

Pours with a frothy, reasonably dense, initially three-finger thick, browned, tan colored head. The beer is an almost black, deeply burnt, brown color. Aromas of roast grain are quite prominent; slightly acrid, deeply burnt, dark coffee roast, burnt raisins are all noticeable. There is also something that reminds me a bit of tart plum, concord grapes, and perhaps even a bit of other-than-roast contributed sourness in the nose.
First sip, this is definitely far more sour than the roast character could ever hope to contribute. The beer is fairly dry at this point, and certainly seems to be quite a bit more thin than one would expect. Underneath the sourness is the subdued roast character, which would otherwise be the dominant note. As far as sourness goes, the tartness is quite pleasant with a rounded fruit note to it, but it just doesn't work in this beer.
It is really unfortunate that Siletz has this bottling infection problem, as most of the bottled brews I have had have had varying levels of infection. The funk lover in me can't help but think that this particular bug would work quite well in a bottled Saison style beer, alas this is not that style. -

Poured dark brown, with a thick tan head. Aroma is husky grain, burnt wood, some earthy mustiness, and some light cream. Very strange awkward aroma all around, and the flavor follows suit. Flavor starts with burnt chocolate and some creaminess, before being taken over by some sourness and a funky dirt and musty flavors. Finishes bone dry with an abrasive bitterness. Very confusing beer, possibly infected? No freshness date, but other reviews seem to suggest this is either intended, or an all too common problem.

No head?!? Egads, if I had a complaint about this beer it would be that it was *too* carbonated at first and produced too much of a head. I didn't realize it would be this foamy and wasn't careful and had a glass of 3/4 head and 1/4 beer. Pours a dark black with a huge creamy beige head. Smell is of a great stout; roasted malts with a touch of hops. Flavor is a bit on the burnt side of "roasted," but it's still quite good with some nutty qualities. Palate is creamy though a little harsh. Overall this is a pretty good oatmeal stout. Not the best, granted, but definately worth seeking out.

Very dark. Only lets light through at the extreme edges. Great heat. The colors are a bit streaky. The occassionaly streak of beaten egg whites in the otherwise yellowish tan head on the first pour and streaks of chocolate milk foam on the second. Nice and thing but not too large. The aroma is very roasty. The flavor is coffee, burnt malt bitterness, molasses and a strong hop bitterness that I wasn't expecting. It doesn't clash though. The hops dominate, but meld well enough with the malt bitterness as to not be offensive. The other flavor and aroma aspects of the hops are buried under the malt flavors but come through as pine-tree burps. I really enjoyed this stout and I was surprised it isn't rate higher. Still, a bit misnamed. It's not all that creamy and definitely not sweet, but a good aggressive dry stout.

Poured a dark brownish, red color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of oatmeal, cream, some lactose, chocolate and light roasted malts. Taste of roasted malts, and tons of coffee beans; some sourness as well. It was overly carbonated. Unfortunately the taste did not live up to the aroma. Perhaps a re-rate is necessary.

Eclipse black color. Huge freaking foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and very roasted malts. A medium bodied stout. Malts are heavily roasted (read BURNT) and very coffe-ish. Fairly bitter and its way to acidic in the aftertaste. Its balanced fairly well and the taste is smooth, but the over the top roasted malts really detracts from this beer. The other reviews of this beer suggest that there is a high variability to this beer. This might have been one of the bottles in the middle of the spectrum. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is dry and very acidic, Aftertaste is very bitter.

This beer is a deep dark, dark brown almost completely black( held to the light only small hints of brown adorn the margins) and a nice large tan head..BEE-UT-I-FULL MM MM a very strong and good aroma sort or unusual for an oatmeal stout, this had a real strong hint of black coffee and some nice smokiness..good stuff Yes..a very nice strong taste coffee predominates..i also taste liquorice and some real dark roasted malts..at the end there is a certain hop bitterness. Very ,very creramy in the mouth yet its still exhilerating stuff. An unusual Oatmeal stout..but still drinkable..if the mood is just right..tonight it was!
