Our newest addition to our Harvest family is Southern Hemisphere Harvest. This is the first time we know of that an American brewer has put out a beer with fresh-picked hops from the southern hemisphere. The inaugural ale will debut in late April and will feature fresh Pacific Hallertau, New Zealand Motueka and New Zealand Southern Cross hops, all from New Zealand. Like our Celebration Ale, the fresh hops in this beer are dried right after being picked then shipped immediately to Chico for brewing so that they retain their peak aromatics and flavors. To ensure the freshest hops possible, we went to the added expense of flying these hops from New Zealand to Chico so we could brew with them the week after they were picked. Beautiful copper color with a nice cream colored head, copious amounts of lacing. Interesting tea leaf aroma and flavored hops, fruity, malty, still the tea leaf is distinct, nice easy bitter linger. Fairly smooth and very drinkable albeit slightly different.

pours a burnt orange color with a very persistent thick head that clings to the glass and remains for a very long time. The aroma is piney and not as floral as I remember from past years. A really pleasant and inviting aroma though. The taste has a nice pale ale lightness with a good hop bite. Small bubble carbonation with a moderate amount. The Wet Hop does distinguish itself in the second taste, as the freshness does come through. The mouthfeel is clean and surprisingly crisp. Initially it provides little resiny remains on the palette, but after multiple sips the IPA/pale ale resin remains with a moderate level.

Pours a nice amber with a massive white head I could float a beer cap on, also stays a while. Aroma is heavily hopped. Taste is mellow at first then it has a dry bite to it. Aftertaste is there and it is very dry. Overall not bad.

It pours a nice, appetizing dark amber with a thick and persistent creamy-beige head. Aroma is rich and fruity, more like a cider, but with some malt and hop components. Flavor is surprisingly hoppy and nicely bitter with an undertone of pear; it tastes somewhat like an IPA mixed with pear cider. Texture is smooth, and aftertaste is hoppy and a little bitter but with a touch of sweetness.

This is a north meets south ale which I had on the East Coast. There, I have the cardinal points of the compass covered. A dark orange IPA with plenty of malt and hop character. Lots of citrusy notes in both the aroma and flavour. A very good experience.

My chair was quite a bit lower than the table, so the first thing I saw was the colour of this beer. Delicious, I thought. Tremendous amber colour. This is going to be good, I also thought. Soapy head like only a hoppy beer can provide. Aroma is like sniffing a bee's ass. Mild, sweet, and warm like laying under a blanket with your girl. Right away, I can tell this is a wonderfully crafted beer .I easily declare it best beer of the night, truly a gem. Finish has some characteristic pine, but quickly shows itself to be overly bitter, and the pine kinda enters without knocking even though you wish it had, so you could pretend you weren't home. I will add that it tastes like a session beer, a real 6.7% sleeper.

I found this monster 24oz bottle at the local supermarket a couple weeks ago. Has a very nice clear copper color with a creamy off white head. Aroma is pretty complex with citrus and flowers with a tad of pine. Much better hop aroma than the average IPA. This beer has a super creamy body! The thin layer of lasting foam kisses you with every sip and it is surprisingly full bodied. This is lightly malted but goes with he aromatic and spicy hops that are not very bitter. I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. Great beer for the price.

1pt. 8 fl oz. bottle (via trade) into a tulip. Poured a golden orange with a one-finger head which settled to a coating. Lacing was abundant and lasting. Nose was citrus and pine with some floral notes and some sugary sweetness. Taste was some citrus up-front but a heavy kick of sweet bready malts and only mild bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with little hop bite. Carbonation is moderate and appropriate. The alcohol is well hidden. This is a nice well-balanced IPA I would seek out again absolutely.

2010 Harvest (6.7%)- I am liking these Harvest/Fresh Hop Ales from Sierra. Something about the fresh hops, New Zealand, I dunno...it's just yummy. Still getting the slight mass produced feel that I get from SN, but the hop finish at the end more than makes up for it. Typical medium orange IPAish appearance. Aroma and flavor a little less on the piney/floral side, but it's still there. Definitely a better than average IPA.

Pours a deep cloudy orange with a thick white head that you rest your head on. Fantastic lacing. Requisite floral and citrus character and nicely hoppy - very well balanced all around. Slightly thin in the mouth. Clean and crisp finish. Nicely done.
