I thought Dortmunder/Helles was a Lager? This beer is described as an Ale, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. Pours pale golden, pure white pillowy head with some lace. Grassy, honey notes, but fairly monolithic taste, little complexity. Overall, slightly above average, but it costs more than Dortmunder Gold where I live, so not much of a chance I'll buy it again.

Pours a dark golden color. Smell is malty, slightly sweet. Taste is crisp and refreshing, malts, grains, a bit earthy. Overall this makes a good session beer.

This one, a deep orange-golden colored beer. There’s a big frothy textured, white head. Fairly good hang time. Leaves a medium soapy ringlet atop the body and gentle splotches of film aside the glass. The nose and tasting match. Grainy and grassy. In a light, effervescent and crisp body. Overall a nice beer.

what exactly is a dortmunder style ale, as this brew is described as on the bottle? twice. pours a dark yellow with generous head. aroma a touch fruity with some floral hops and a bit of corn. unfortunately, the flavor is more one-dimensional and very bland (more corn, kit malts) though it does have a hop bite at the end. feel is prickly. overall, ok for the style, so i'm not sure it belongs so low as to be in the 3rd percentile in style, but why this style and this beer for your winter seasonal? well, i don't really want to kill it, so maybe it does belong down there. and yes, great lakes is sooooo much better for roughly the same price.

Sampled on 6/16/2010. This dortmunder/helles pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, with a touch of floral and herbal hops. A medium bodied dortmunder. The malts are fruity and sweet, a touch of orange rind. The hops are spicy and floral. Nice carbonation. Some breadiness as well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Available at fine establishments in Dallas, the beer itself is anything but fine. To say I didn't like it, would be an understatement. It was awful. A very pale gold colour with a l;ot of effercvescence. The aroma was weak graint malts and floral hops. The flavour was weak, almost watery. Not something that will entice me!

Not that the aroma was bad, with the exception of some very, very faint malts it was too weak. Clear golden body, plenty of carbonation, thin head, and lace. Sweet grass at first then a bitter presence shows up. Like Suds McDuff said alot like their shiner 99, an improved version I guess. Overall i am not a big fan of the style, but this wasnt too bad.
