I am reviewing the 2010 version which is superior to the previous incarnations. This beer is very similar to Great Lakes Christmas Ale, and for the first time, I believe, is on par. Lots of spices in the aroma (ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg) and honey sweetness in the finish. It hides its 7.8% alcohol very well. This beer pours crystal-clear dark copper, the lacework persists and head remains thin throughout. If you like GLBC's offering, definitely try this alternative.

This beer looked sexy in the glass. Nice lasting head, some lacework. It looks a lot like Old Peculiar, and this is a peculiar beer. Aroma is just plain odd -- I cant get a handle on it. Lots of different flavors going on, but they don't complement each other well. I taste bananna and vanilla, and a little molasses, but there are weird sour and metallic flavors that ruin the experience. I thought maybe I got a spoiled beer. Disappointing.

I thought Dortmunder/Helles was a Lager? This beer is described as an Ale, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. Pours pale golden, pure white pillowy head with some lace. Grassy, honey notes, but fairly monolithic taste, little complexity. Overall, slightly above average, but it costs more than Dortmunder Gold where I live, so not much of a chance I'll buy it again.

Best American interpretation of Octoberfest I have had. Light amber-golden in color (like Hofbrauhaus') with a sweet finish and lighter body that Paulaner. Low head retention. Selection of grains tastes very true to style.

Bought this 6-pack while vacationing in Kiawah Island, SC. Very unique Hefe. More orange/amber that most German weisse beers, nearing Dunkel color, and has more complex fuit flavors. Hard to pin down but I taste less clove, and more banana, vanilla, and pear. Definitely stands out from the typical style. Will place this into my regular rotation, although it is hard to find.
