Like FDR's Depression-era radio addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation. Fireside Chat is our early winter seasonal brew available from October through December in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like a classic, warming Strong Ale but with a subtle blend of hand-selected spices for just the right festive flair.

This beer looked sexy in the glass. Nice lasting head, some lacework. It looks a lot like Old Peculiar, and this is a peculiar beer. Aroma is just plain odd -- I cant get a handle on it. Lots of different flavors going on, but they don't complement each other well. I taste bananna and vanilla, and a little molasses, but there are weird sour and metallic flavors that ruin the experience. I thought maybe I got a spoiled beer. Disappointing.

pours a reddish brown with a medium to larger creamy head. Light lacing. Aroma and flavor are nutmeg, raisins, English malt, and other dark fruit and ready notes. Medium in body. Lots of spices being noticed, way to much!

A translucent brown brew without a lasting head, just some white lace scattered across the top. Definitely some clove here, maybe cinnamon, and raisin. The flavor is spice & yeast bitter with some herbs and smoke, very little sweetness relative to the aroma. The aftertaste is unrelentingly bitter. Not really my thing, personally. Tingly, sticky, heavy.

Comes out of the growler a warm chocolate brown that lets in daylight only at the very bottom and has a thick, persistent, fluffy light tan head. Malty aroma has caramel, earthy and nutty hints. Flavor starts with a firm malty core and adds nutty, earthy and horehound tones plus a hint of caramel and a pinch of clove. Palate is fairly fizzy but only average in the thickness department. Overall, not too shabby. Drink it by the fireside.

Thick tan head following an amber~brown body. Medium-thin body, malty and neutral.....could be more filling. Gingerbread all around, mild spicy medly followed by berries and cocoa. A touch nutty, toasty and sweet. Nice rendition of a spiced winter warmer.

Sampled on 11/27/2010. This spice ale pours a medium to dark drown color from a 12oz can. Medium sized white foamy head with decent lacing and good retention. The aroma is dark fruity, sweet and spicy. A medium bodied spiced ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice carbonation. Lots of spice flavors, kind of generic holiday spices, but I am unable to pick out any individual spices. Wish there was a little more malt sweetness to go with the spices. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

ended up being a weirdish beer that i thought i'd like more. it poured a pretty dark brown with a nice hat. there's a slightly metallic tanginess/sour aspect that's right alongside the otherwise rich and robust malty cinamon and vanilla goodness. i wish there wasn't. this had the potential to be great, but falls short. Contract brewed in northern Minnesota. 11/2012 - as expected, get rid of the metallic sour off notes, and this is damn good. I've had it at a 3 and a 4, so ill comprimise on the score and shoot it a 3.5.

Interesting brew. Smaller head. Very dark amber color. Pleasant aroma. Well carbonated. Taste is overly spiced and does not last long with no aftertaste. Not very memorable. Just so-so.
