The color is between light brown and amber, very few froth but a long time nicely froth bubbles. The odor is fresh and caramel dominated. The taste is also dominated by caramel with fine notes of hop. The finish is long lasting and is changing between hop and honey. Can be well drunk if thursty or for savor.

somehow i don't think 9.6 has been one of the strongest beers in the world in a long, long time, if ever. Anyway, I love doppelbocks but this is not a traditional example. Sweet and sticky, without the doughy, bready richness I know and love. More fruit, candy sweetness. Not bad, but a little high in price, and there are just too many better brews out there.

330 ml bottle, kindly shared by our beerpal Olav. ABV 9.6%. Golden colour, low white head. Herbal aroma, a hint of caramel and alcohol. Rather sweet flavour, some caramel and alcohol, really not my cup of tea.

Perfect gold body with a small white crown, looks light for the style but pretty overall. So very sweet what the hell is up with this brewery and there beer they seem to over sugar everything. Rotten apple, barn yard, and a hop like quality can all be smelt and tasted. The 9.6% is hidden completely, I can’t tell it’s there. So very sweet. Wet paper and other bathroom floor flavors are now being noticed when warm. I’m went from thinking this beer wasn’t great but still okish to I hate it so much that I’m going to go across the street and beat my idiot neighbor who’s fucking car alarm goes off three times a day. The only complement I can give the beer at this point is it’s a high class better tasting version of Big Bear. Drink up you homeless bums!!!!

Apr 2009 - Pour was a honey brown color, crystal clear with a big frothy head that soon turned to naught. A super sweet aroma brought fears of a cloying malt bomb. It was indeed very, very sweet, with caramel and fruit flavors..on the edge of overly sweet, probably a little over. It was enjoyable, but not overly memorable. I had been holding this bottle for quite a while and it was a tad disappointing.

A doppelbock that does not seem to fit the label. Strong alcohol on label and in flavor. Have a well-aged and developed flavor that only a 9- month lagering process can add. Hints of honey that remind one of belgium (not Austria). Let it breathe a few minutes, then enjoy.

Well, this sucks. Tiny cap that fades quickly, deep gold brew. Is this an imperial pilsener? Apples with a slight spice (not one that normally would be associated with apples in food) that works well, prunes, caramel that comes across sweet due to the apples, doughy bread. Smells thick and very fruity. This smell sooooo much better after considerable warming. Bleck! So much alcohol. What crap. Kind of apple like, mild caramel, interesting spices that bows down to the overwhelming alcohol. The sweetness and alcohol are finally taking a rest on my guts. Grains... man, I just cannot get into this beer. Thick and not quite oily with a burning aftertaste. Alcohol warms the stomach. If this was a bigger bottle I would have poured the rest.

Books are useless! I only ever read one book, “To Kill A Mockingbird,” and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin…but what good does *that* do me?

Schloss Eggenberg Urbock 23° 1.7 cheapdark Looks like a pale american lager. Taste reminds me of cheaper strong american lagers. Rather coarse and rude on the palate. Overthe top in alky content, probably should be styled as a strong lager. Not much bockness in this brew except for the alky. Overall; in your face. Medicinal finish and a little dizzying. Strong as cognac, fer sure.

I start out puzzled by this one. A Dunkle? But when I pour I get a bright light copper colored lager. I get a weak soapy white head without much hang time. The nose is sweet and fruity. The mouthfeel is viscous. The alcohol hits the palate upon taste and immediately heats the mouth. In general it’s an okay lager, but singular in characteristics and too intense in alcohol to discern any subtlies that might be hidden away.
