This collaboration with Kaldi's Coffee uses the cold toddy method of extraction for the coffee. We mix it with Oatmeal Stout for an exceptionally delicious beer.

Brought this back from a recent trip to the St. Louis area. Pours a dark brown color with a sudsy, dark tan head. Little to no lacing. Strong coffee presence on the nose, with roasted malt and chocolate bringing up the rear. Coffee dominates the taste, with the roasted malt and chocolate providing the rest of the flavors. The body is quite thin and is a drawback. I have a feeling that it had some age on it (purchased in a liquor store in Bumf__k). All in all, it's a decent coffee stout.

Smoky aroma has an overtone of quality roast coffee plus nutty and unsweet chocolate hints. Pours a deep chocolaty brown that lets in a teeny bit of light at the bottom and has a thick, fluffy, light tan head that sticks around for a bit. Flavor has roast coffee and unsweet chocolate notes with nutty and woody notes. Texture seems a bit thin for a stout, but it has plenty of lively fizz. If not the best coffee stout available, still a good one.

12oz bottle, received in trade with bluesandbarbq
Memorial Day weekend, got a few beer geeks running around my house and I know what I have in store for them, thanks to a nice trade from brother Lou. This was a very nice coffee stout and it's strength lies with the flavor.
The beer pours out a deep black body, medium-sized mocha colored head with really nice retention. Aroma starts off with coffee (no surprise there), but some light tobacco, leather and even some cream kind comes in there (I've been on a coffee kick lately, so maybe that's my imagination playing tricks on me). Flavor has a nice mocha quality to it, but leans a little to the drier side of coffee flavors and not the sweeter. Tastes almost like some coffee grounds were sprinkled in there before capping the bottle. Big roasty flavors, the charr is kept well in balance and the dry cocoa flavor is also welcome. Definitely a keeper. -

i don't know anything about the "cold toddy method" but the coffee presence in this beer was super-fresh, almost like chewing on a fresh picked bean. definitely at the fore-front. another one that covered up the beeryness of the beer, but not in a bad way. smooth texture, medium bodied. some light roast and chocolate and hops to accompnay the coffee. Another nice beer from Lou!

From Nashville - Frugal MacDoogal pick up/beer haul: dark brown/near jet black pour with an ample tannish head, good lacing. Fresh brewed coffee aroma, pleasant and inviting, deeply toasted malts, slight molasses and cocoa, light earthy hops. Taste is spot-on for a coffee stout - deep rich black coffee, deep roasted malts, touch of molasses and chocolate, nice coffee and hops bitter linger. Most excellent beer from Schlafly - wife liked it too!

Are you gonna cry all day, crybaby?
You know, everyone has problems; it doesn't mean you have to be a little crybaby about it.
Come on, guys, let's go. This kid is totally not cool.
Yeah, that's the most uncool kid I've ever met.
Little crybaby! -

Very dark brown/ruby colored beer. Nice, thick, tan, creamy head. The tiniest orange highlights at the bottom of the glass. Very nice head retention and a decent amount of lacing left on the glass. The head settled to a nice film covering the top. A very rich and robust coffee, espresso note barrages the nose with the first whiff. A roasted or burnt barley backs up the coffee. No real sweetness to speak of, but that's alright. Almost getting a walnut type of scent too. Again, very strong coffee, espresso flavors right off the bat. A very dry breadiness dusts the palate to give a bit of complexity. Finishes with a "whole" milk type of essence. Medium to medium/full mouthfeel. Dry and a touch rugged, but in the most complementary way. Leaves a comfortable amount on the palate. Not so much that it's distracting. I rather like this beer. Some may be turned off by the abundance of coffee flavors and aromas, but I found it most enjoyable. This reminds me of an after dinner brew that could be had with a small bowl of vanilla ice cream on a cold, cold night. Probably wouldn't want to tackle this on a Summers day however. It's worth a try and I'll pick it up again sometime soon for sure.

12oz bottle, bottled on 11/2/10. Pours brown with a smallish off white head that quickly diminishes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is grains, some chocolate and coffee.
The flavor is bready malts and slightly stale acidic coffee with a burnt bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with spritzy carbonation.
Overall, an OK coffee stout. There's decent coffee presence but the flavor is a bit off for me. -

On of the specialty brews on tap when I visited the Tap Room on my latest trip to St. Louis. Standard pint glass. Very dark in color, basically black, with a dark brown 1/2 inch head. Lace strings are left on my glass. Rich smell of coffee, slightly bitter, like a strong cup of coffee and the grounds. Taste follows with more of that rich, slightly bitter coffee. Also some roasted chocolate malt. Mouthfeel was appropriate for the style. Overall, a pretty good slection, might be too strong in the coffee department for some, but I liked it. If it's going to be a coffee flavor, go all out.

Bottled (thanks heemer77). Dark brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is strong coffeebeans, not much else is let through, except for dark choclate. Flavour is coffee, some roasted malts and hops. Some chocolate in aftertaste along with coffee. Very watery.
