The first thing one notices in a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is its color: the deep brown of winter. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The warm aroma of cinnamon and ginger which blends with the roasty sweetness of the malted barley and hint of citrus from the orange peel. And after that first sip the promise is fulfilled. On the palate Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with this season.

Febr. 2013: 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Chestnut-coloured beer, moderate off-white head. The aroma has some caramel, dust and grass. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of caramel but is not too sweet, also notes of brown bread, the spice addition (cinnamon, ginger, orange peel) is fairly moderate and quite mild. The bitterness is low. Certainly drinkable, but not really great.

Another fine brew by Samuel Adams. Pours out a clear brown color with a slight head. The aroma is of burnt orange peel. The mouthfeel is above average. The taste is of full flavor Wheat & malt.

pours a copper amberish color with a nice foamy/fluffy light brown head that stays around for a while, fading into a thick everlasting film. The aroma is that of bread and grain on the front of the nose. Light backing of orange citrus and an herbal hop note. The taste is that of bitter orange peel comes through on the palate and cinnamon becomes noticeable as well. The mouth feel is full bodied with a thick texture and lively carbonation.

Had four of these at Bennigans's during Super Bowl 2012 (buy one, get one!). Nice dark gold body, pleasing aroma (might have a bit of spice going on in there). Flavour echoed the aroma, nothing too significant but enjoyable to drink, nicer than the Bostom Lager. Good mouthfeel.

6-pack from the LCBO. Pours a clean copper colour with an average creamy off-white head that stays a little bit and creates decent wavy lacing. Nice malty grain aromas with a touch of caramel and hop. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with a beautiful mid-stickiness. Surprised I am not getting any cinnamon and ginger anywhere. Malty cereal taste with a little bitterness in the end. Quite an easy-drinking lager with just a bit more bite than most average ones.

Bottle: Pours a copper-red lager with a 2 finger tight cap....good retention, decent lacing. Aroma gives firm sweet malt presence, some toastyness, spicy, a bit of cocoa. Moderate body, gritty mouth feel.. Flavor profile of a decent dark bock but the sweetness is fleeting as the sweet malty toastyness up front turns dry with a roasty bearing...nice spice accents....sharp dry-reasty finish. Fantastic drinking dark lager. Wish I could get it all year

Nice pour, head dissipates quickly. Purty amber coloring slight lace on sides of glass. Aroma was hard to pinpoint, I was grilling ribs at the time. Slight smooth malt and a touch of some citrus, mouthfeel had a carbonated charge, a bit tangy. I could not taste any clove. Overall good, not super complex.

    500ml draught

    The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
    December 30, 2010
The beer poured a translucent copper colour with a thin creamy tan coloured head. The aroma was grainy malt, caramel, and floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is slightly sweet, grainy, with a bitter finish. Tastes very similar to an Oktoberfest.

Nice clear, deep amber/reddish color with an egg shell colored head that had a combination of both large and small bubbles. Retention and lacing were excellent. The smell is kind of tame in my opinion. The cinnamon is there, but hidden way in the background. The orange zest is not very prominent either. In the taste, I pick up the cinnamon at first, followed by only the faintest bit of orange. Detecting some kind of spice, but not sure how to identify it. I rather like the taste ok. Medium mouthfeel. Smooth and mostly dry. Leaves some on the palate. I would prefer a bit more. This beer is ok. I like the plain ol' Boston Lager better however. This is a decent little change. Probably wouldn't want to make this my dominant beer, but at times and in moderation it is ok.
