    pours a pale light yellow color with a small white head that fades quickly. The aroma was light malts and yeasts and grass. the taste is well balanced with a touch of citrus and hops. the mouthfeel is medium bodied with nice carbonation.

    Pours a clear solar yellow with a very thick and fine-bubbled buttery pale tan head. Strong, crisp aroma is mainly malt and yeast with a fruity, floral undertone. Well-rounded malty flavor has a nice hoppy undertone and a fruity hint plus a touch of hoppy bitterness. Smooth, firm texture has only a little fizz, but this is the brew’s weakest point, and it isn’t weak by much. Overall, a satisfying and highly worthy ale, an excellent tribute to Jack McAuliffe and his contribution to craft beer.

    Compared to modern day pale ales, this is very average at best. However, I have to believe that the original (assuming this is a a close approximation to the original) would have been fantastic compared to the beer selection of its time. Mild grassy, earthy, fruity hop aroma and flavor with a little bitterness in the finish. Although not great, this is a beer worth trying once just to see what the first "craft" beer was like.

    I picked this beer up as a single at Kroger in Salem, VA. I actually really enjoyed this beer. It was unique and nicely hopped. Slowrunner noticed that the beer smelled too perfumy - I agree, a tad much. But, it was nice. All of this being said, however, I still prefer Sammy Adams Boston Lager.

    Very perfumey and fruity aroma, and eventually taste (as the beer warms). It went from being pretty ho hum to being different and unique, slightly sweet. but it actually became a bit too much perfume in the flavor.

    Pours a clear straw yellow with a one finger white head that goes away fairly fast. Carbonation is a plenty in this one. Aroma has a tad bit of hops and is fruity sweet. Taste is grainy, weedy and dry. Reminds me somewhat of Henry Weinhards Private Reserve. Not something I will be seeking out.

    Mmmmmm... wanted it to be better and expected a little more. Far more like a typical lager than an APA. Clear golden color with a two-finger head that disappears quickly. Lightly grassy-fruity aroma with a pronounced malt back. Not bad, I just didn't like it as much as several other Sam Adams offerings.

    A golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some citrus and herbal notes. Like a vitamin yo. The flavor is slightly bitter but mostly malty with some caramel, cooked veggies, and citrus. Wow another off beer but not so much so that its not enjoyable. Overall ok session stuff.

    Hazy golden~yellow body with a whispy white head and stingy lacing. Faint aroma consisting of grass and floral hops. Firm bitterness adding a nice balance to a very crisp ale. Bread and cracker malt content with mildly citrus hops. Extremely simple and nice, I do believe this recipe is a SMaSH of American 2-row and Cascades allowing the yeast to add the subtle soothing characteristics found throughout. Will easily get lost in today's standards and abundance of offerings, but I can see the eye opening appeal that occured 30 years ago. Cheers Jack for all that you've done.

    A bright, deep golden colored beer with a big frothy textured, white head that rose briefly above. When settled, there is no lacing. Muted nose. Simple grainy, grassy profile. Light, effervescent and crisp. Great session beer.
